You could try a warm bath instead of a really hot one. Sometimes I find that lying in the bath is uncomfortable so I go and stand in the shower for ages. If you have a shower (a massage shower is fab), you could try standing up in the shower and letting the massage shower work wonders for you. Have some shower gel made from natural/essential oils handy. I like the citrussy ones to refresh me, the rosemary/juniper/rose/lavendar ones to relax me.
My mother in law also has chronic back pain and she has a little plastic chair that she sits on in the shower. She finds this really helpful. The chair is attached to the shower wall so that she doesn't fall over/off it.
When I get out of the warm bath/shower, I rub some heat treatment on the painful bits. It seems to work better after I've been in warm water.I've just found something called "White Tiger Balm" which seems to last longer than some of the other heat products I've used before.
Best wishes !
