I'm not a doctor, but the reaction to cold in your extremities sounds like Raynaud's disease. Regardless, you don't want your hands turning black. That indicates that there's no blood flow. I use those disposable heat packs in my mittens when outdoors and I make various other accommodations to keep my hands and feet warm.
It's all about experimenting and figuring out what your body's trying to tell you it needs. I wish I understood its language. Good luck.
