The difference is that a foot or two of snow in the upper midwest is really not a big deal--just as temperatures of 30 below zero F can happen any winter. It is all in what you prepare for!
Up here we are only a month away from tapping the maple trees and starting our spring melt. Maple season starts with winter weather and ends with the very earliest spring flowers blooming. Last year everything was a month earlier than normal. My photo is of me tapping a maple tree.
