Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and...
I listened to your video the other day and, yes, my voice does much the same thing (although my voice doesn't crack). When I'm having a lot of weakness I sound like I am hoarse. If I stop talking for a while it returns to normal but will get hoarse again after speaking a few sentences. I can count on having this problem the day of ivig and for a few days after. It makes sense if you consider that the vocal cords are most definitely controlled by voluntary muscles.

My voice also gets very raspy at times, even been told you sound like you feel bad.. Find when I do a lot of talking it is very raspy. I agree with Cathi.. it is part of MG too many people do it!

My experience is that MG can change your voice quality and tones in the same way your speech can slur... sometimes it's the S, other times the L... and then there are the times I just sounds like I have a mouth full of rocks. My Husband finds this symptom to be the comical side of MG.... I just take my mestinon and tell him to "CHUT UP"!
Thank you! I just read your post and you know how even when the doc says "this is what you have" you still wonder if some of the things you experience are just crazy? I so can relate to the varying sounds that are a problem with the slur. It seems odd that I can't just identify words that will cause me trouble and avoid them but they CHANGE. The funny thing is I almost without fail will have trouble with my name, doesn't that just figure?

Be well.
How much Mestinon and prednisone are you taking right now?
Curt
2,000 cellcept, 60mg mestinon every four hours, 20mg pred. PLEX weekly. Plus other small fiber meds.
The reason I posted about the voice was I seemed like MG caused to me. I am using other to verify my thoughts.
Also, thanks for the responses everyone!
