For a few months after the thymectomy I was as weak as a kitten -- the MG got much worse! I think the pain medicine was bad for the MG, and also the stress from the surgery and the anesthesia.

But a few months later I was better -- but I had IVIG and the whole pharmacy of immunosuppresive drugs. Just take it easy and stay outta the heat! ~Joe

Thanks Joe. Did you see an overall improvement in symptoms from before your surgery? (after the "downturn")

I've been feeling a little weaker now post-surgery (now that my IVIG has worn off). I attribute it to the general difficulty of having gone through all that the surgery entailed.

Hi there I also found after thymectomy my symptoms did get a tad worse, but I agree think from anesthesia, pain meds etc it just wacks out your system and weakens it so therefore you become weaker etc....And definately the stress to your system...But same here a few months later was MUCH better....I did see overall improvement after my surgery for sure....just rest and relax and you will do good Im sure!! Both of my crisises were after my surgery. Then I went on prednisone and cellcept.
I felt better about a year after thymectomy.
I was only on mestinon at time of surgery.

My post opp symptoms were exasperated for around two months essentially my body healing from the thymectomy as I had the full service cracked sternum etc lol . Within 6 months I was seeing significant reductions in my meds and plex.

I hope the same for you , keep the faith and hang in there as before you know it things start improving .

I was great for a month after then got weak again. Had to start ivig and cellcept. Wishing you improvement.

i had my surgery about 5 weeks ago, can't say I am seeing any improvement yet. My goal is to get off some of these medications or at least limit them. So far, that is not even a consideration. That having been said, I had some significant post op challenges, so I am going to hang tough a bit longer and see where this takes me. Truth is it was stage II so it had to come out and i had my thyroid addressed at the same time, that was cancerous too.. so .. I guess we will just sit back and see where MG takes me.

Has the thymus out in March and by July I was well enough to walk around with my youngest on my shoulders (that was a big deal!).

I am definitely better than before, but I didn't have a choice about the surgery, as I had a thymoma. Unfortunately, I was not miraculously cured. But I am doing pretty good (knock wood!), and you wouldn't know by looking at me that I have MG. ~joe

I had my thymectomy @ 21 yrs. ago - I too had a thymoma so no choice going into it. They went through the sternum with me recovery was a major ordeal. Remember being very, very weak for months and the eye droop did get worse. Had to train my daughter to lift up her hips when changing her diaper because I didn't have the strength to lift her up! It was a very dark day when I went to the neurologist and he told me my window of time for improvement was running out. But then right about the year mark my symptoms got noticeably better and I went into a med free remission that lasted until last August! Wishing you all the best.
