The head of my infusion center made the comment, " oh, you are on prednisone so we don't need to give you any (IV steroids)." And my neuro said they would help with the side effects of IVIG ( so hold off on the taper). It gave me the impression that it was routine to have not only Tylenol and Benadryl on board, but also a corticosteroid.-- at least at this center. I think cathi said she gets IV steroids with hers. b.

I was always given Tylenol and Benadryl when I was getting IVIG. I was already on predinsone.

I get decadron 4mg regularly as a pre-med for ivig. They started this after I has aseptic meningitis with the loading dose. I don't see any worsening from it. One time we tried 1000mg solumedrol prior to ivig but less as a pre-med for side effects and more to see if we could calm my symptoms. I was worse for 10 days and didn't see any appreciable improvement.

I have solumedrol every 2 weeks. The side effect I get is weight gain, which I hate and it is weird because I do not have that with prednisone. i hear I am the opposite of most people with this.

It does not weaken me. In fact, it helps my walking during the infusion, which is always wonky and it helps my hearing loss for a couple of weeks, until the next dose.

I have never had anything but Tylenol and benadryl before IVIG.

I get Solumedrol (sp) before each infusion. Keeps me awake at night, steroid flushed cheeks, and ravenous appetite. These are temporary though.
