Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. I used to use an Australian MG site that isn't active any more. It is easier to find drugs to avoid, harder to find info on other important indicators. I get weaker with low blood calcium, low potassium, low Vitamin D and high TSH.
I'll just have to use my powers of persuasion and tell him how I had a choking attack from a Lifesaver (ironic, isn't it) as it produced more saliva than I could handle. I was with a group of my fellow flute players at a year-end party. I hadn't drunk anything but water and the room was cool. I said "Don't mind me - I sometimes have choking problems. At least it didn't happen during the concert!".

Just to make life more interesting I'm seeing the neurologist I've been waiting for since April 2015 (in Canada) tomorrow. He told me I didn't have MG in 2009 and I needed to see a therapist. Let's see what he says this time when I tell him how Mestinon works for me. Maybe he'll use it as a trial drug on more folks after talking to me. I stopped taking it as soon as the office called (on a Sunday!) as I am scheduled for an EMG. He never did an SFEMG before - maybe doesn't know how! Trying not to get my hopes up. This is just a second opinion so I'm trying not to stress. Kind of glad I didn't have 6 weeks to worry - just 48 hours.

Oh, well, back to the world of mystery patient with no diagnosis at all. I'm keeping my Medic Alert bracelet with MG on it and told him I was close to a crisis with my last bad cold. Hopefully if I ever get into trouble my bracelet can speak for me and someone will take it seriously. I have followup with a respirologist in July so maybe he will have some ideas of my shortness of breath, especially off Mestinon.
And tomorrow I meet my new naturopath, My former one moved but this is the head of the clinic and will continue to keep me alive, in spite of the specialists!
