My doctor started me on prednisone first. My double vision cleared up within a week, and seems to be the easiest of my symptoms to control. However, I have never had any weakness in my extremities - just the symptoms associated with OMG, it started with the droopy eyelid, and double vision. Then I had difficulty swallowing, speaking and holding my head up. So your experience has been much different than mine.

There doesn't seem to be much agreement among doctors as to a standard treatment. But, to be fair, there are lots of different ways that MG affects different individuals.

This is a good place to learn about all the different treatments and experiances of myasthenics! My doctor is good, but I have learned more here than from him.

You are way ahead of me. I've had double vision for about three months now. I am really frustrated, I haven't even heard from my opthologist for about three weeks. The only tests he and neurologist have done is an MRI for a stroke or a tumor, all clean. Then they did the blood test which I wasn't surprised when it came back neg. It seems one morning I wake up and they both look normal, but by the time I go to bed one looks wierd. Then the next day it's the other one. Its very subtle and I sometimes wonder if its all in my head. It sounds like you are well on your way to getting better. I bet these guys will have good suggestions for you. I am seronegative and I started with leg weakness as well about 10 years ago. About 2 years ago my left eye started to droop and then came the double vision. Mestinon didn't help my eyes and I haven't seen a change yet in my vision since starting on Prednisone and Imuran. However, I just started both of those medications this month and sometimes it takes time. I have not driven in 6 months due to the vision problems, but I know in time it will improve. I never give up that hope. We are all different, so what happens with one doesn't mean it will happen with you. I wish you well and hope yours gets better soon.

I have only ocular MG. Severe double vision beginning at aboutvnoon each day, then getting worse as day continues. Diagnosed in March of 2011. Since then, have experimented with dosage of Mestinon and realized that 120mg taken at a time (2 pills at 60mg each) does the trick. Helps within about 20 minutes. One pill was not enough. Have not had any side effects - ever. Never any stomach problems for me, thankfully. Just had Thymectomy two weeks ago. Went very well, and am feeling great. Symptoms GONE the very night after surgery, but then slowly came back within one week. Am now back on the Mestinon, but still confident that Thymectomy was a good proactive decision to hopefully stop progression to generalized MG. Will not know for some time what outcome will be.... Will wait patiently to see what lies ahead. God bless!!!

I have had double vision 24/7 for over five years with no change except when I get tired by late arvo it gets worse. Mestinon and Mestinon Timespan makes no difference to the double vision. I can't take steriods, so they are out. Had a thymectomy and that made no difference. It is now just something that I ignore and don't focus on(pardon the pun!). As it is stated here often, everyone is different and just because mine hasn't improved does not mean yours won't. I wish you all the best.

I agree, everyone is different, so far no matter what I take I have the droopy eyes, right is worse than the left. double blurry vision, by the end of the day at work the blurry vision is bad, hard to see the words but hey... I made it through the day! I also agree don;t give it as some days I see better, so I am happy for those days!

I have glasses I can wear when it's mild and they help. I don't know why, but they do. I went in when it was bad and they prescribed mild glasses to refocus my eyes, and they work until it's really bad

Mestion doesnt work for me. I found that prednisone is the only cure, I took it for 3 days- problem resolved.

I have droopy left eye, vision mildly blurred, when i'm tired blurred is worst and double vision is bad, I just go to sleep. Early in my dx's, I was taking mestinon, my vision was worse, my neuro told me it was a side effect to mestinon.
