So this whole week after eating I have felt like I have food stuck not really in my throat but further down. My doctor that I soto for said I should go to the ER. It's the weekend and who wants to do that. Any suggestions? It is painful, and I ve had some shortness of breath when I go upstairs to my bedroom. But the idea of sitting in the ER doesnt sound fun. Help...

GO TO THE ER!!!! Please! Now I am going to be worrying about you...and I have enough going on with me! lol If you can get things taken care of now your breathing will be easier. If you prolong it you might end up being intubated...and trust me it's not fun! I should have listened to my body earlier and might have only needed the ER visit instead of being life flighted to Worc. It's just a couple of hours out of your day...(mine ended up being 11 days)...SO GO! ((HUGS)) Cindy

Hi Tara - I have a (banded) restriction, at the bottom of my esophogus. My symptoms sound similar - to what you are describing. A standing x-ray, is the tool used for diagnosis.

I have no idea, what caused this ''band'' to happen. (Evidently neither does my doc.) A lovely little complication, along with MG, and the difficulty in swallowing from that.

When eating, I take smaller bites, chew it well, using as much water as needed, to make the whole process easier. I also use a swallowing technique I was shown in the hospital.
So far, so good.

So I didn't end up going to the ER. I am scheduling a barium swallow for asap to see what's going on. Im breathing fine, just have that "feeling" below my throat. It's not terrible, so I feel like I can wait to see what the test shows. Thank you for all your concern, I guess Im just being stubborn too. I will keep you updated.

I would make note of whatever you ate that gave you this episode. Certain foods kind of ball up in the tube if I don't eat slowly (white rice in particular).
Hope the swallow test helps get to the right diagnosis
