MG is progressive, if not treated. Which means it keeps getting worse, with the symptoms increasing.
Prednisone is a treatment for MG, so if it is MG that would explain why the double vision got better while taking it.

On the double vision without ptosis ... my understanding is MG very individualized. In my case, had both ptosis and double vision ... but the ptosis only affected one eye. As others have suggested, keeping a log was useful as over time, it helped me make a bit more sense of what the patterns were and this helped a lot in terms of my ongoing consultations with the neuro doc.
On the double vision ... found an excellent solution in "prisms" ... kinda of like an extra lens that can be glued over eye glass lenses ... and this helped me bridge that gap until the mestinon/prednisone kicked in and eliminated the double vision.
