I have to lie down on the sofa most evenings.
I read where someone uses the Victorian recliner chairs with the wings and supports her head that way.
Did you check google? I google everything. It is amazing what you can learn and the questions that you can find answers to! I hope you are having a good day.
Good topic.
I recline on the couch and sometimes lounge side ways on it. When I do that I use it on one side or the other, depending on which direction I'm laying. If I sit straight up and down it's impossible and it wears me out very quickly. Good luck to you. I hope you find the pillow you are looking for. I have also thought about making my own pillow but alas there is no energy for it. :-(
Aloha and well wishes.

Has anyone had to use a CPAP machine? I get whole nights when I seem to choke. I usually sleep on my side....
Thanks too for tips on making a temporary pillow and for the use of ice. I never thought of a wing chair, something else to consider.
How I love the way you all jump in to help.
Sometimes the choking can be due to reflux. Raising the head of the bed 8" can help as can a medication for reflux. I finally had to have fundoplication surgery but a soft wrap. I still take medication but reflux is no longer a problem.
Reflux can also cause the larynx area to swell. This can also increase choking at night.
If reflux is not the problem then a consultation with a good sleep doctor may be in order. Sleep is supposed to be restorative so if it is not it can effect us greatly. There is a short test you can take on paper that would help you determine if you may have sleep apnea.
The questions include under which circumstances might you doze off for a few minutes during the day.
After eating a large lunch?
After watching an hour of TV?
In a public place talking to a friend?
At a long stop light while driving?
As a passenger in a car after an hour of driving?
While reading a book?
Some people do not realize that losing weight is almost impossible if you do not get good sleep. Many people who do successfully go on CPAP or BIPAP who have had trouble losing weight find it comes off easier once their sleep is better regulated. It has to do with the chemistry of the body during the sleep phase and metabolism.
I hope you find the source of the choking and can find relief. I had several years of this before recently getting it fixed.
As for neck support, we have one sofa who's back height is perfect for supporting my neck. In bed I use a very soft soft down pillow in an allergy encasing that I can scrunch up into the perfect position for my neck.
