Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and...
Good Luck with the blood results!

Be well,
Be well,
Good Luck! I hope it turns out not to be MG, however if it is, taking the medications/treatments, for the majority of us, do bring us back into a reasonably normal functional life. In my case, MG and its problems were vastly worse than the meds (for me right now, prednisone). It has brought me from a basket case to mostly normal again 8 months after diagnosis.
Initially I felt somewhat better. Both my eyelids are up for the first time in a while. But my chewing and swallowing are in the toilet.
They did a swallowing test this morning and I was ordered a soft diet. Lunch was late, I was hungry and it was a regular diet. The meat was a baked dark chicken quarter, reasonably soft and moist. I took one bite, it was delicious, I swallowed and it got stuck, but went on down.
So, as I have been doing, I chewed carefully on the second bite. My jaws instantly got fatigued and painful, so I had to stop chewing and sit there with that chicken in my mouth till I could get rested enough to take it out. There was no spitting it out because my tongue was exhausted too. Had to dig it out with my fingers, scary stuff.
It took a while, but they brought me the cutest plate with mooshed but shaped and formed food. The peas were formed in the shape of a pile of peas, there were mashed potatoes in the usual form, and a shape that took the form of two slices of turkey. There was gravy on the meatlet and the potatoes. I'm not sure what the meat was, but it was pretty good. Then ther was what looked to be three or four slices of fruit in a bowl for desert. I thought it was real fruit, but it was some sort of peach flavored stuff about the consistency of cranberry sauce. It was delicious!
I am looking forward to the possibility of getting back to the human race and if Ivig will get me there, then so be it.
It will take time to get stable, but improvement is the goal.
Steady as she goes! Keep us posted.
Drink that water before, during and after IVIG.

I am surprised it is taking so long for the test to come back. When I had foot surgery, they checked my IgA on the spot when I mentioned my history of IgA deficiency. Maybe it would be wise to make sure the test was sent out so you are not waiting needlessly.
Wishing you the very best!!
Rosie
Take care. I was where you are and you will be ok
Just rest
I got over tired in the hospital.

Be well,
I did manage after resting a while to get down some thin yogurt. I am so hoping this Ivig treatment will help with this.
When my neuro came in this morning, who is great, by the way, I told him about what had happened and that I thought the staff should be made a little more aware of my potential problems with mg.
Things have changed drastically since he left this morning. I think he made them aware of a few things as they have been very attentive and accommodating since.
Peace
Soulwife
Hope things improve soon.
