I just received a call from my neurologist that my last blood work showed highly elevated liver enzymes. I am to stop taking Imuran immediately, have blood work done again next week and he will be in touch once he gets the results. Has this happened to anyone else? What should I worry about with the high enzymes? Will my liver return to normal by going off the Imuran? I have been feeling much worse with my MG in the last few weeks, do you think this could be why?

Lots of questions friends, but if anyone has had this problem I would really appreciate any information you can give me.

It sounds like you are doing the right thing. That is why we are tested. You will just have to treat your MG with a different course. Hopefully you will know what that course of treatment is very soon and can move forward.

Hi, it's been explained to me that your liver reacts to all changes in your body. Or, it could be a result of the meds, or indicative of a liver disease . Not to worry you, so good that you'll have another test. My first tests were high. And they've dropped, but still watching it. Do you know what your number is?

P.s.stay away from alcohol, greasy and oily foods--they make your liver work harder.

Thank you Troy, Russ and Bamboo. Fortunately my neuro is having my blood tested weekly. I don't tolerate alcohol well so only rarely have a glass of wine, and thank you Russ for your guidance in navigating this site. You are all so very helpful and kind to me. It is very much appreciated.

I was on imuran last year I had alot of problems with it. They took me off of it after 2 weeks because I guess the side effects but they did not check my liver. They put me on cellcept seems to have helped I feel some better. I guess right now I am waiting for the hot weather to return to make that call. I wish you luck this week.

I was on imuran but took off due to white count dropping too low.

Thank you Bear and Annette. It will be interesting to see if my neuro suggests cellcept, I'm happy to hear it is helping you Bear. I do hope so much that the reason I've been feeling so poorly is the Imuran and not the MG getting worse.
