Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and...
I am willing to try it though. At least for a bit to see what I could do and then get out. Get back in and time myself with a trial etc. Everything is enhanced with Myasthenics. After a hot tub or hot bath our bodies are relaxed anyway, so keep that in mind for MG as a muscle relaxant. We don't get along so well in general. Just like when we get up, our muscles take a bit to wake up also, but it is enhanced because of MG. A Hot Tub, or hot bath is a luxury in life and we should be allowed luxuries. I don't really hold back anymore in my showers for amount of exposure time under the hot water etc, and it also is just better when I am stronger. It really has gotten to be a thing I don't concern myself with anymore in regards to my MG. I am a little over one year after Dx. For future reference, and anyone with MG that wishes to do these things, make sure you be very careful, maybe have someone around, and are at max strength and timing with your mestinon, if applicable.
Hope that helps,
TJ
Nope - can't take a hot shower, either.
(Sounds like a great additional diagnostic tool, for MG.)
Sounds better than a poke in the eye huh? Great idea!
As far as being diagnostic for mg, I know everytime I get hot, whether from the shower or from a house or store that is too warm, or from the sun (see cooling vest :-), I wilt. I spend a lot of time every morning thinking about where I will be that day and deciding what kind of layers to wear.

Now that we are in too colder weather, I will turn the heater on in the bathroom but then turn it off as soon as I can get my robe on. Heat wilts me quickly. Sometimes a hot blow dryer will make my eyes close.
I used to relish that loosey-goosey feeling I got after a sauna or a steam, but now when I feel it, it just reminds me that I need to take a mestinon.
Like Beth, I have an old claw foot tub from 1926 and I love the luxury of meditating or devising multivariate simultaneous equation models while I soak. I do some of my best thinking in the tub and it breaks mental blocks while I cogitate on econometric models, public finance or health care financing.
Like all the responses here, I COULD NOT tolerate a hot bath before I met Mr. P (prednisone). Massive doses of prednisone freed me of almost all MG symptoms, including the inability to tolerate hot baths.
