I'm in the middle of my 1st day of IVIG. First bottle ran fine. Second bottle not running but blood backing up the line. Line flushed. Line changed. Bottle of IVIG transferred into bag but still not dripping. HELP! Any ideas. Know any nurses with ideas? My nurse is a good nurse and well seasoned....PLEASE HELP....We will be here all night,,,,

My daughter had a problem like this once.
The IV-needle was placed too near a valve - in a blood vessel.
At the Outpatient IV-Therapy where I go?
They have Senior IV Nurses & Charge Nurses - who take over, when a problem like this develops.
I know this a little late but just in case you have his problem in the future here is a suggestion. IVIG comes in a bottle and there has to be an air vent to allow the fluid to drip. This is usually provided by a vent in the IV tubing. If there is no vent, the nurse can take a small clean hollow needle (I,e,. 20G) bend it to an "L" shape and puncture the diaphragm of the bottle. This will allow air bubbles to enter the bottle so the the fluid will run. Bending it keeps the fluid from dripping through the needle. Also, raising the bottle may help as someone else has suggested.
