Has anyone had a gastric emptying test?

I saw my gastroenterologist's nurse practioner yesterday. After she talked with the gastro about my concerns, they decided that is sounds like I may have gastroparesis. That apparently is diagnosed with gastric emptying study. Wondering if anyone has had one?

Hi Rebecca,
I have gastroparesis. Every part of my GI tract has been tested, beginning with swallowing. The gastroparesis is being treated with very low doses of Reglan (Metoclopramide). Very low doses, only 2.5mg. On occasion, I take more than 1 dose a day. The Reglan has helped a great deal! This very-low-dose is a personal decision, as Reglan has a strongly worded warning, about Tardive Diskinesia. So far? I have had no side-effects from Reglan.

Be patient with all the GI testing, but only to a point. It took many, many months - for all my testing to be completed. Which seemed a very unnecessary thing. It was not like patients were lined up in the halls, waiting for testing. - Ross

I had gastric emptying test done last year and did fine (MG wise). worst part was laying still on back for 2 1/2 hours. the laying still part was the hard thing..esp with my restless legs. Like Ross Ihad other GI test and did fine with those...now infections and surgeries knocked me down, but recovering.

I hope the test goes well Rebecca, if you have it. I had severe gastroparesis with each MG exacerbation, although they told me it is not a symptom of MG! I am wondering if others have had the same issues with gastroparesis, even just some of the symptoms. I was so sick I didn't do the gastric emptying study, and then as I improved I was too scared to undergo any procedures in case I ended up flaring up again...good luck to you and thank you for sharing.
