Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. I think this is a fair and reasonable question and one that is too infrequently discussed. I believe the short answer is "no and yes."
In addition to being physical, sexual function is so tied to the psyche and the psyche is so reflective of our state of being that it's nearly impossible to separate the physical act from our state of psychological well-being.
Physically, there is nothing about our disease or the treatments for it that would make sex difficult. None of our medications have that as an indicated side effect. If you ALSO take blood pressure medication, that would be a game changer.
Psychologically, we are so impacted by our daily distress...by how we feel, by how we look, preoccupied with our physical well-being, that sexual appetite and function can be severely impacted.
For those lucky enough to have a sensitive, supportive and loving partner, sexual function shouldn't be an issue. A good sex life can probably do wonders for our healing, as well.
I was on another support site a few years ago and brought up this same issue and the question brought so many hoots and howls from people thinking talk about sex was nonsense and that sex was in their past and had no place in their present or future, supplanted instead by a life with MG. I strongly disagree.

When I started taking imuran I noticed reduced sexual drive, told my gp he said it was not the drugs. A week after getting off imuran I was back to normal sexually.
Chris.
I'm horny all the time, can get an erection easily, just as I could before onset of MG!
Hope that helps. Interesting topic.
Best wishes,
TJ
Thank god I CAN still have sex (just not on top now) :-)
