Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and...

Potassium is your friend, especially if you're going to be taking steroids. We need it in order for our nerves to work properly, and if you end up taking steroids, your body loses potassium. It's definitely something to eat liberally.
Being on a healthy diet may help you in time, or it may not. I'm still trial and erroring things, but compared to where I was 5 weeks ago to now, it is working for me. Considering there is no medical cure for autoimmune Myasthenia Gravis, I don't think that it hurts to try something different.
Welcome to the group.
Caffeine really helps me so I do drink coffee. The rest of my intake is as healthy as possible.
No gluten, dairy and only natural sugar.
Weight watchers is best for me since I am loosing weight. I hope I will feel better and better the smaller I get. I figure if I can tell the difference between heavy and light silverware .....being thin can only help.
I wish you the best in your acceptance of this change in your life. I know it is very hard at first. I remember feeling like I was a cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

Alcohol - bad
Chocolate - good
Aspartame - very, very bad
Fresh vegan choices - very good (but I cannot swallow them)
Those are just some of mine. Eating a good diet is a cumulative rather than a daily thing, so there is some wiggle room with the less horrible of the baddies, but alcohol has immediate deleterious effects on me just the way the absence of caffeine does.
I believe vitamin d is good.
This comes from a website that talks about immune boosting foods.

Cinnamon can cause vasodialation so for some with higher BP that might be ok but for those with low BP can be a disaster.
I take zinc to improve my sense of taste and smell. I do not do well without it. I also take vitamen D as I like many people have low D without it. I take Metanx which has partially processed B vitamens for my neuropathy pain with very good results. The odd thing is I could never take B vitamens in other forms without nausea but somehow this type that is partially processed works very well for me.
I avoid magnesium per my neuro's advice. I also do not take calcium as it causes all my joints to hurt. Not sure why.
I avoid all artificial sugars and use hardly any real sugar. I try to keep carbs low and proteins high as my body feels better I actually do better with veggies then fruits as the sugar in regular fruit can seem too much for me I do eat half a banana a day I am on a soft diet for dysphagia and bananas are the only fresh fruit allowed.
I saw my MG specialist yesterday and asked about this list of foods and vitamins, whether there were some to take or avoid. He said that *in my case* the myasthenia is not sensitive enough to be affected by the amount of magnesium in the Cal-Mags or multivitamins and that he did not think adding or avoiding the other foods would matter.
I know that every case is different, but given that I had the opportunity to ask the specialist, I thought I'd post a follow up message. I know that there are other members of this forum who cannot tolerate magnesium or have been helped by other foods and vitamins.
Hope
"Post-marketing surveillance has revealed a variety of relatively rare but serious adverse effects that are associated with all members of the fluoroquinolone antibacterial class. Among these, tendon problems and exacerbation of the symptoms of the neurological disorder myasthenia gravis are the subject of "black box" warnings in the United States"
