Myasthenia Gravis Support Group
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles that control eye and eyelid movement, facial expression, and...
Choking is a common symptom of mg also due to weak throat muscles. Choking can be extremely scary because not only are the muscles too weak to get the food down, they're also too weak to bring it back up.
general fatigue is said to be a symptom of mg also although I had never experienced it until after my thymectomy. If I had to guess I would say you have mg and it is escalating.
Good luck
Annie
Like I said, in the past it has really just been my eyes -which started around March. I couldn't drive for almost a month due to the double vision. I never had ptosis though. I don't know how many with MG get the vision problems without ptosis???
I have wondered off and on if a symptom had been related to MG or if I even really have it due to the fact that I am seronegative. My eye doctor said my eyes are good except for my nearsightedness. He said the muscles looked weak which prompted the initial visit to my doctor. My doctor has another patient with MG and wondered if I could have it. I was already diagnosed with GERD, osteoarthritis, psoriasis, and hpv. He said that autoimmune problems run in packs and also that they seem to be the curse of the ginger...lol
Most of the time, I have written a symptom off to something else. It's really been the last month or so that I have been putting symptoms together and really started to think that they are because of MG.
I have also noticed heat sensitivity. I seem to feel a lot worse when I get overheated. I have developed anxiety due to the severe stress of the events of the last year of my life. I just wish I could get back to feeling normal...lol
I had to meet with my son's teacher and other staff tonight and did major talking. By the time I left, my face muscles were aching pretty bad. I haven't talked for an hour or so now and they feel much better, but the ache is still there.
The choking isn't severe at this point, but I plan to tell my doc of my new symptoms when I see him for my 3 month checkup this month. He said last time that if it progresses, he would probably send me to a neurologist.
Anywho, bless you both! :)
Welcome. And good luck
Annette
