Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular disease leading to fluctuating muscle weakness and fatiguability. The hallmark of myasthenia gravis is muscle weakness that increases during periods of activity and improves after periods of rest. My eye doc said that putting frost type scotch tape on one eyeglass lens was better than a patch. I tried it on my right eye, the one with the droopy lid. It wasn't too bad after a day or two getting used to it--much better than trying to wear a patch. However, my eyes worked together fine when I looked at things close by, so I ended up ordering an extra pair of driving glasses to have a pair to tape up (i just sent my prescription to zennioptical.com and got a 10.00 pair).
I found out that if I tipped my head way back, so I looked out of the bottom of my eyes my double vision went away down there--so I then taped just the top part of the right lens and when driving used the left eye unless I was approaching a car, turn, or something that seemed like two eyes were better, and tipped my head back and got past it. Hard on the neck, but made me feel much more comfortable on the road.
When I took enough mestinon, I could watch my double vision go away over about 60 minutes as I could see normal vision with my head less and less tilted back. Then when I got enough prednisone (about at 40 mg for a month) my double vision went away and has stayed away with just the prednisone now for the last 5 months.
I also tried a prism static cling eye glass cover that tried to resolve the double vision into single vision. It sort of worked, but my double vision was not at all stable, so the prism was never quite right whatever the prescription. Using a static cling piece of fogged plastic might make a good temporary/removeable glasses patch.
Good Luck!
