Hi, I am new here. My husband, who is a pastor, was diagnosed with MG, which started in October last year. We thought at first he had a stroke, as his speech and mouth were affected, but a CT scan showed that not to be the case. He went to an ENT, and after a series of tests, and speech pathology exams, a barium swallow test, and an MRI of the thymus, blood tests indicated a strong positive for MG.
Over the past month, his speech has become more labored, less clear, what had been difficulty swallowing, has become an inability to do so. He is a heart patient, and a diabetic, but cannot take his meds - he gets choked. The Heimlich maneuver is worthless with liquids.
In the past 2 weeks, He has not eaten more than 2 cups of food, very little liquid, and the meds are hit and miss.
I don't know what to do here, what truly defines a crisis, and if this is one. He has lost over 60 pounds, and I fear dehydration, since his saliva has become phlegmy and thick.
Any suggestions? He has been taking Mestinon since April, but it wasn't working any more, can't take it anyway.

I had problems swallowing even saliva and ended up in ICU. The mestinon through iv helped some but I was also given IVIG and it helped after a few days.
