Antibiotics sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim

Hello, I am on prednisone so one of my doctors want to put me on this antibiotic. I know we can't take a lot of antibiotic so I am asking if anyone takes this antibiotic?

I take it 3 days a week. It is used for patients who have compromised immune systems so that they don't get sick from every germ floating around. I have had no MG troubles with it and I also have not been sick. I've been on it 6 months.

It's on the use with caution list, but then almost all antibiotics are, that aren't strictly contraindicated. (You can check medications and myasthenia in the Links Group'or the medications on the myasthenia. org site).

My own feeling is, I wouldn't take anything unless I were sick and the bug sensitive to that drug. In general using medications when not specifically indicated leads to sensitivity problems and bacterial resistance.
