I was first diagnosed by blood test and every Neuro that I go to since tests me again. My antibodies were off the charts so it is never in doubt but I guess they want to see for themselves. My antibodies have never changed much each time they are tested. Not sure what others have experienced but there are lots of people here who's blood tests were negative.

Yes, I am sero-negative. Even if it shows negative one can still have MG.

Antibody levels can change. I have had the rounds of testing twice . First time all was negative, second time I was positive for LEMS.

I have been tested twice within the same year both times negative. Muscle weakness with use increased over that time. Double vision when fatigued. Difficulty with swallowing and speech.

I had a very positive response to mestinon. Neurologist states not all antibodies have been researched as yet. Also said most people who are this positive to mestinon are not usually MUSK antibody positive so we are not doing that test.

For now I am just very happy to have a medication that helps this much. Marie

I have heard of people becoming AChR positive within the first year of onset, after a negative test, perhaps especially those with ocular myasthenia; and people who are positive and getting better sometimes have the tests repeated to see if the antibody levels are falling, but you know you are getting better without seeing those results.

There are many of us here who are negative on the commercially available tests. There are at least two different antibody tests that pick up seronegative MGers and other antibodies are known, but those tests are not commercially available. The reliance on testing instead of clinical diagnosis has caused many of us to have to wait for diagnosis and treatment which is ridiculous given what is known about MG and the testing. Some are still waiting. b.

for seronegative where are you seeing a Doc, we need one who believes in us.

I am seronegative, and my neuro will re-run the test sometime in the future, since he said it can change.

Welcome, Unsure! I am seronegative, also, and was definitively diagnosed via abnormal Single Fiber EMG. It sounds like you have a good doctor, which I a real blessing! Hang in there and keep posting! Rosie

Here is a twist in oct 2011 I tested positive for antibodies and last month my blood work was negative... talk about being confused!! don't know what my neuro is goin to do now. still on cellcept 2000mg/day, prednisone 15mg/day and mestinon. I have had some improvement but far from normal.

My neuro said antibodies were of no use to compare patients but may have significance in the individual.

Thank you all for your replies and advice. My neurologist has just emailed me to say the result is yet again Negative. I don't know the actual readings - he just put "Negative - that is to say it is normal" ?!

I have to say that I am not really surprised given that it was negative 9 years ago and I was half expecting it. He has said this does not exclude Myasthenia and asked to see me at the end of the month and to call him if I become weak again. There is no mention of an EMG (which I have never had) so I have asked very politely if he would consider referring me for one.....I hate asking as I think it must really annoy Dr's and they must feel like they are being told how to do their job but I don't want to wait to become bad again and feel like I'v come this far and might as well ask!

Speaking of EMG's - for those of you who have had one, if I was to be referred for one would it matter if It was carried out on a good or bad day? My symptoms do fluctuate depending on how much I do - I had a week off work and felt much better but after a week back the symptoms seem to be increasing again! So - I wondered if there would be a more accurate reading if I was having an increase in symptoms on the day?

I have had several achr tests as I have changed neurologists several times. Some tests are borderline or positive, then tested last year after about four years of diagnosis and test was negative. I was at that time, however, doing extremely well and had taken mestionon timespan the night before. Even thought I might have been in remission. Two neuros say I do have mg and some say no. They still prescribe mestinon for me, and it helps me. Go figure.
