Achalasia in MG? Gastro intestine stops working ?

Doctor says these automatic muscles aren’t affected . But mestinon seems to help . If I don’t take the mestinon everything kinda sits there and I become bloated .

Mannyv87, before beginning Mestinon, I had slow gastric emptying and esophageal spasms. The esophageal manometry test was abnormal. Long before I was diagnosed with mg, I was prescibed Zelnorm to help with this problem, but then Zelnorm was discontinued in the US. Mestinon works beautifully for this for me too!
BTW, I am seronegative MG and positive only on single fiber EMG. Are you also seronegative?

Thanks for replying ! I also was negative for antibodies but positive for the EMG. Yes I get spasms in the esophagus as well as my whole body . Sometimes vibrations do you get this symptom as well ? Also do you ever get heart palpitations ? I feel like my heart is also affected somehow. Maybe a nerve block that the stomach/ gastro intestinal is all connected by . I’ve always wanted to make sense of what the underlying cause is for us to have those autonomic issues . Since they aren’t suppose to be MG related . Neither are the spasms .

interesting that you are also seronegative.

Hi,

I am also Anti-AChR negative. But EMG was positive for MG. Gravitor (Pyridostigmine) used to cause severe acidity when i was 15 yrs old. But now I am 23 and i didn't have problems when i had to restart Pyridostigmine. But i had problems with digestion during steroid withdrawal and also when i started Mycophenolate sodium. I experience painful heart palpitations often. I also feel vibrations in my chest sometimes.

Wow you were diagnosed at a young age as well . I think I’ve had it growing up but started having more symptoms as I reached my teen years . I ignored my droopy eye and double visision thought I just needed glasses . But then I started getting bad enxiety and bad fatigue . Do you experience twitching/spasms ?

Hi Manny,

I do experience twitching very often since i had started taking Gravitor (Pyridostigmine). They were worse when i was on steroids. They twiching has reduced. significantly after i started taking Mycophenolate sodium but its still there. I had severe anxiety during steroid withdrawal.
