My 18 yr old daughter (who has had MG since 13) has never been on prednisone but has had significant neck pain since the beginning. Her main MG symptoms are muscle weakness and fatigue. She gets a great deal of relief from PT but she is not yet willing to go on a regular basis. That is, she uses her time and energy to get through her part time job and to go out with her friends. Then, the rest of the time she sleeps so she can do those things. When her pain gets beyond OTC pain killers, she'll go to the PT. She went to the ER once and they gave her a shot at the site and a prescription for strong painkillers- not a good long term solution!

Weakness is part of MG and many of us have had the numbness, so I wouldn't think it was the medicine.

I can't say for sure, because each person is different. I wouldn't think it was the prednisone, because you are only on 10mg. When I was higher on prednisone I had problems, but since I have tapered to 10mg I am doing much better. Those problems were not as you describe though. Many people are on a much higher dose of prednisone and that is what they need to help with their MG symptoms.

I know I couldn't handle being on as high of a dose of Mestinon as other people, because it made my symptoms worse. I take 30-60 to start my day, than take 30mg every 3-4 hours after that until bedtime. I have done so much better doing it that way. Don't know if it will work for you, but you may want to try it. First, though have you talk with your neuro about it?

I really haven't started any PT I am usally tired when I get home from work and try to work in the yard. I am sort or scared it may generalize I started with Ocular MG and from what I have read I have a good chance it will. I think I will try adjusting the Mestinon when I call my doctor seems he just does the same thing but I may call him. I am also thinking of getting a second opinion he may know a little something extra. Thank you both for your replies they have helped.

Oh one more thing I am sitting here and sweating alot and seems to me I do that all the time anymore. I live in KY and it is hot here but I am in a Air conditioned house right now sitting. My eyelid has been drooping I know that is part of MG though one good thing now I just do it early in the morning a little. I will say this started at the beginning of the year and so far has been interesting.

If the disk problem is bad enough that could be the cause of your difficulties with your legs and feet and if you have it in your neck, it may be elsewhere in your spine. On the other hand, this could all be due to MG. It seems like nothing about MG is straightforward. If you don't feel like you are on a roller coaster, then you feel like you should be in the loony bin.

Speaking of roller coasters, did you ever get shaken up on one? That can give you neck problems that you didn't have before. Prednisone would decrease any inflammation in your neck at higher doses, and 10 mg a day should not be giving you much in the way of bone problems, especially in the short time you have been on it. Mestinon is not likely to cause those kind of problems.

I have neck problems from a congenital fusion and a good roller coaster shake up, my leg problems come from my MG and respond to medication. I am on 20/10 prednisone and 60 mg mestinon 5-6 times daily.

No, Roller Coasters don't like heights and speed and the screaming. I don't even like those places to many people. I live in the country nice and quite and when I drive it is slow.

When I was on prednisone and mestinon controlling the mg symptoms was always a challenge. Especially since the side effects of mestinon can include muscle weakness, increased sweating and many other things.

In order to remain symptom free I needed about 20 mg of prednison and then I supplemented that with mestinon throughout the day.

A very weak and sore neck was one of my symptoms with MG.

Does your doctor plan on starting you on Cellcept or Imuran?? It was only after I got on Imuran that my MG symptoms were really controlled.
