Music Group Community Group
Wow, I'm so sorry guys! I haven't been active in this group for what seems like years. I just don't get on here like I used to. But, I've decided to get back on here and update a few things. So, I welcome everyone to the music group :)
JourneymanProject1
I feel like trying this one out, if it doesn't work it doesn't work.
This owes its inspiration to one of the speedround formats from the short-lived VH1 game show My Generation. I'm going to take two song titles, take out a word that they share, and then combine them to make a mashed-up mess. I'll leave a clue as to what the missing word might be to help you on the ones that I post. Feel free to add your own if you can solve one, my only request is that they workable for people.
Here's an example: If the combination I gave you was...
Tainted Potion No. 9
A clue I might give you could be: Soft Cell's best known song uses the first word of this combo and one other.
The missing link is Love; Tainted Love (Soft Cell), Love Potion No. 9 (The Searchers)
Got it? Try this one:
Generation Heart Will Go On
Here's the help clue: The Who nearly lost their drummer when they performed this song on the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour with a drum set that was rigged with explosives...and nobody but the band knew before said explosives went off.

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

... observed a solar eclipse.

My generation and My heart will go on
But Empathy did get my puzzle right; the two songs were My Generation (The Who) and My Heart Will Go On (Celine Dion), so "my" was word I pulled out. Do feel free to try creating your own puzzles here, just make sure you pull one word out only.
So here's another one if anybody else wants to try, and since I feel kind about these things you'll get a clue to help you just like the previous one:
No You Fear (The Reaper)
And here's the clue: Blue Oyster Cult were more known as a thinking man's metal band, but that changed dramatically changed after this song from the Agents of Fortune album found its way to #12 on the Billboard charts in 1976.
(You probably will not be familiar with the first song on this one, but I promise I did not make this up. So if you give me the missing word, I'll give you the songs.)
Not remotely sure about Empathy's...
How about this one?
Don't Worry Be Together
The song titles were:
No You Don't by Sweet; this one wasn't as obvious but it is real, it's actually the third song from their Desolation Boulevard album, so I'll post it here since I feel a need to prove that my last puzzle was legitimate:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1UM1k_Ujp8
And the other was Don't Fear (The Reaper) by Blue Oyster Cult, which is what the clue referred to. One member of BOC said after Agents of Fortune went platinum that they didn't view themselves as a rock band at all...and yet the effects still showed in some of their future songs, such as "Burning for You".
And that IS a nice one TES...I could solve it right now but I'm going to leave it there for a little while in case somebody else wants to jump in (I hate being a dominating type).
The answer was YOUR
Your song(Elton john)
and Hold on tight to your dreams (ELO) but its just hold on tight isn't it?
Sorry!
Dont worry be happy and happy together?
I figured one of the songs you were going with was Hold On Tight but yeah that's the actual song title (the "to your dreams" part is just in the chorus not in the title) and I wasn't clear on what "dreams song" was in reference to so that one did cross me up. Good attempt though, and good song choices!
These are sort of like musical versions of the "before and after" catgories on Jeaopardy and Wheel of Fortune, eh?! Should've known you'd be using tv game shows as a reference, Journeyman, given your wealth of knowledge on the suject!
Okay, let's see if I can configure another...
Heartbreak California
(admittedly easy, but what the heck)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yavHKesvleg
I could do a few of these kinds of threads using the same idea as some of the categories from the show.
Back at the ranch...actually, I like that one TES. The missing link is Hotel:
Heartbreak Hotel (Elvis Prestley)
Hotel California (The Eagles)
Now, here's one that's a little harder because I am not going with a before-and-after setup on this one:
Time Won't Me Drown
This one virtually requires a clue, so here's one to start and I will add more if they're needed: One of the titles is a 1968 Outsiders song that might be an excuse you give at 5pm on a workday.
You got mine right on, Journeyman, by the way.
I kind of like it better as before and afters because then you don't need to give clues. But that's just me.
Okay, let's try this one - and here's my hint: one artist is pretty much only known for the one song, the other is very well known but it's a more recent song that's not considered a major one in their vast catalog:
Mexican Nowhere
And honestly, if for no other reason, I just realized I'm better off doing straight before-and-afters because that last one wasn't fair; I had the option on which word to remove. To your credit, you got it; the missing link is indeed "Let":
Time Won't Let Me (The Outsiders), I'll give a link to that:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efpp03h_Ja8
Let Me Drown (Soundgarden)
So yeah, before-and-afters from me from here on only. I still might offer an occasional clue if I think a really obscure song is involved, though.
It was - Mexican Nowhere
I'll add another hint - the artist who did the second song was a part of the Hurricane Sandy Relief Concert...that sort of narrows it down...not by much, there were a lot of acts involved in that concert, but it's a start!
The link you're looking for is Radio:
Mexican Radio (Wall of Voodoo) -- first heard this playing an Activision compilation on my PS2, maybe this song should go on the one hit wonders thread?
Radio Nowhere (Bruce Springsteen) -- he won a Grammy for this. :)
Now try this one:
Crazy on Belong With Me
This time I'm not giving a clue right away, but I will if it's apparent that nobody's getting it.
It was indeed radio and those were the two songs. (and an absolute yes to adding "Mexican Radio" to the One Hit Wonders thread)
Your word would be "You" - "Crazy On You" by Heart and "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift.
Okay next one - should be easy too...
I Heard A Has It
Okay, try this one...we're reaching well back before my time with this but it shouldn't be too hard, I hope:
Mellow Submarine
