I never had nice writing, but it has gotten worse yes. Sometimes it's a struggle to hold the pen to even sign my name at the doctors office.

The tremor doesn't help any at all!

My brain has a hard time automatically writing. Really have to think about how to "draw" the letters.

YES! YES! YES! And that was very upsetting to me. I also have difficultu typing now. Am a single finger typist that needs to look at keys. Former computer programmer, so this is totally new because of MS!

My handwriting became illegible FIRST! After thew attack that diagnosed me. At firest I did not want to start meds that the doc instructed. Then I needed his signature to keep my DL, so I had to staryt meds to get him to sign...I joked I can't even forge my own signature so ther is now way I can forge yours, so I'll have to start meds.

When I would sign a CC reciept at store I would apologize for my signature, then I finally got smart & rrealized they don't know what my signature looks like, so I can stop apologizing.

I'm a former student & volunteered wit young kids in summer tutorial progrm. It had a group of adults doing it in mornings that summer.

I would carry a notebook around of the notes I had taken as a student & say this is what my handwriting is really like, not as it is now. It was depressing because analyzing handwriting is suppose to tell about a person's personality.
And MY personality is NOT in any way what my Handwriting is NOW!!!!!!

A few days ago, I posted that I recently failed the "touch my finger then your nose test"

I think the typing, the handwriting & failure of the "touch my hand touch your nose" are all tied together frm cerebellum lesions.

Althoght the handwriting stuff started 4 years ago, failure of the "touch my hand then your nose test" just starteed a few monthsa ago.

It's tied in with a failure of the Proprioception sense, I think. Knowing exactly were limbs/parts of the body are in space.

Where your finger are in space. Read reply #6 until you see a person with difficulty of this sense does not know how hard to hang onto an object. A large part of my writing difficulty. The compensate with site but it results in a "jerky" compensation.

Yes!!! I can't even hold a pen. I've had to use my right hand. It'd good to know I'm not crazy. I've been trying to explain this to so many people. Maria

yes mine got really bad about 5 years ago,but has ever so slightly improved over the past year.i couldn't even sign my name legibly before and now i can, but that's about all i can write. i found also i can print better than i can write legibly.i use one finger only to type or use a keyboard which is faster for me than all fingers and correcting all the mistakes. as with everything else with ms i find what works best for me in any situation and go with it.i'm right handed,but now share the burden with the left hand.i sign my name and print with the right but type quite nicely with the left finger.i also use my utensils with my left hand now,finding the right pen to use is a big help too. for me it was very large pen or pen with a good grip.i still can't write with a skinny pen! i struggle with everything i do mostly but just find a way to make it happen.you win some and you lose some is my philosophy.

Oh yea....and I am a 2nd grade teacher! I always had beautifyl penmanship. Not anymore. I struggle to even hold a pen or pencil now without it shaking. Every now and then I can write pretty good, but not often. I use the Smart Board in the classroom to teach handwriting. OT tried to teach me to become left hand domanant, but it didn't work.

Used to work at many banks - all closed now! They can get a stamp made to use to sign checks. Most of my banking is done on line - no signature needed. Write one check a month for rent.

Yes definately - at times my neat handwriting becomes sloppy, but what bugs me most is not the sloppiness but the inability to write the correct letters.. For example - I may be trying to write the word "water" but what I end up writing is "watem" an M instead of an R. I know how to spell - I am even thinking wateR but for some reason I write wateM. But this comes and goes. Sometimes it happens even when I am not having an apparent flare up or attack. BTW I can still type correctly at that time - just not handwrite.

I don't have tremor or any of that but have always through my life been told I have beautiful writing-I now notice I struggle to keep the form and I have definatley noticed a chance in my handwriting.

yes...i have a hard time with my signature now....going to buy a stamp and be done with it...very frustrating but what can you do?

I used to do Calligraphy in college and now my handwriting is scribble! You're not alone...

Just discussed this over the phone with Crazy4ms...I was a great and I mean great at handwriting and all lettering. People would want me to make the signs etc....Now I write like a surgeon...HATE IT!
