wellll basically my neuro is asking for me to get a ton of lab work and a follow-up mri to 'continue seeing him' and i can't afford it at all. lol i'm in college, i can't afford lunch some days!

i'm thinking about quitting my DMD, if i have a big relapse, i'll have to go to the ER and my diagnosis is already on file, so i feel like i may be saving money in the long run.

assuming i quit my dmd, i'll have to find a really good diet, exercise plan, and supplement plan.

i don't necessarily want to quit going to see a neuro, but i don't really have a choice, i'm also from a middle class family, so too rich to qualify for assistance but too poor to afford proper medical care.

i have no idea what to do, but i don't really have a choice because the money is seriously not there.

Have you contacted the below organizations to see if they could help with costs? The other thing to look into is using a $200-$300 OCT eye scan of optic nerve by an ophthalmologist as an alternative to $2500 MRI through neuro as a way to track progression. Then do some of the lab work if you can afford it.

I don't know which dmd you are on, but before you decide, you may want to contact the makers of your dmd as they may have some financial assistance there. I'm on Rebif (made by EMD Serono) and they have a program now where I'm getting the Rebif with zero copay. (Which means no cost to me). I just had to call and speak with their financial assistance folks - no major prequalifications necessary. Not sure how that all works otherwise, but it's worth checking out. Good luck to you!!!

I agree with KatMV....... I too am on Rebif and when my copay went from $35/month to $200/month, I contacted MS Lifelines, and Serono is covering my copay in full as well. Check out all options before going off your med!

o sorry i forgot to say - rebif is starting to hurt my liver, and he won't switch my dmd until i get all the tests done, which isnt happening.

i'm calling tomorrow and asking for a copy of all my mris, and finding someone else. it's not a huge loss since it's not an ms specialist, but still a bummer
