A neuropsych evaluation will test your memory, general intelligence, speed of information processing and so on. You will be asked to remember a long list of words, you may be asked to do some simple math, view a picture, then redraw it, and do some logic type of puzzles. You may take the MMPI, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory. It is the gold standard for assessing personality. This, too, is a long test. Can be as long as 600 questions. Oddly, the most difficult test for me was when I had to listen to a man on a tape recorder speaking numbers. Odd, because although challenging, I found it fun. I like a good challenge. I recreated the test at home using a mini recorder. It goes something like... 2, 6, 4, 0, 3, 8, 7, 5. After hearing the first two numbers, I added them in my head and respond verbally with the correct answer. So that would be 8 in my example. When I heard the next number (4). I had to add that to the LAST number that was spoken...NOT THE SUM OF THE FIRST TWO NUMBERS. In my example the correct response would be 10 (6 + 4=10). The goal of this test is to test memory as well as ability to add simple numbers. Now, let me give you a bit of warning. Hopefully, you may not experience this, but when I got my report back, it made me sound like a very slow thinking person. For the last test, a statement such as "could not add simple numbers" was in the report. That was ridiculous. It was not the ability to add simple numbers, it was the ability to remember the previous number and add the new number. This was especially frustrating because I scored in the 92 percentile for the logic puzzles. This is an extremely high score. So I can think logically, but cannot add numbers? Some of the logic puzzles WERE numbers! I hope your report explains plainly about any statements made. Adding numbers is one issue, remembering a string of numbers is another. I can add, but I could not remember. It did not say this. It simply said "I could not add simple numbers". I have a master's degree. I think I can add simple numbers. Sorry for spouting off, I guess I am getting angry all over again thinking about the damned report. The testing itself was fun for me. The report....not so much. BUT it did provide recommendations at the end to handle cognitive functions. This was helpful. Lastly, if you are in the mood, try the website www.lumosity.com. I have had one of these done and it really is not a scary process and the testing was actually kind of fun. I didn't like my test results either, but that is okay I can deal with it.
