I want to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else. As I was re-filling my weekly med keeper saturday, when finished I always tap one from the bottle into my hand and take. As I was taking a drink to flush themdown, I started choking, and I mean choking as to where the sprite was spewing out my mouth, it wouldn't go down.
Thank God my phone was right there, I managed to dial 911, all I could get out was ...ambulance...dispatch said are you choking...I managed a yes...she said on food...managed a no...she kept asking questions...all I said was...hurry. I knew I was in trouble...ready to pass out. I could hear sirens.
The medics come in, I am turing blue, I cannot tell them what happened,They gather my meds up get me in ambulance...blood pressure 54\38...heart irregular...suddenly, I feel it pass through my throat..I can talk but in so much pain it is unbearable!! vital signs still not good in emergency room. run x rays shows nothing...keep me in a morphine induced sleep...vitals still not good.test after test...I am able to point to where pain is...more x rays...nothing...I went through 16 hours of this!!!!!!!! bood pressure drops to 46\31 heart irratic...rush me to surgery...I can hear surgeon say...she is really at risk with her bp so low...He ask if blood has arrived yet? ( im on blood thinners) and cardiologist on way ...I am terrified but they have me so coma like state, I cannot speak. next thing I know I wake up in recovery 4 hours later. GET READY FOR THIS....You know those little plastic bottles in some med bottles filled with moisture absorbent to keep the meds fresh and not allow moisture in? I SWALLOWED ONE OF THOSE!!!
it was lodged sideways in my esophagus. When I tapped a pill out, one of those came out, I didn't pay attention. The doctor and surgeon said there is no reason for those to be in some meds. he told me to tell the pharmacist to make sure they take them out!! They are only in the ones that the manufacture ship directly to pharmacy. my plavix and lipitor have it in them. I was aware they were in there, but NEVER had one to come out when filling or taking my meds.the x-ray didn't pick it up because it was plastic and where it was located in the esophagus.
The absorbent itself doesn't hurt you, but let me tell you it really works, I was so dehydrated, couldn't p the entire time I was there, and I never sweat, but I sure did then.Im home now, feel ok. CHECK ALL YOUR MEDS..DON'T LET THIS NIGHT MARE, NEAR DEATH HAPPEN TO YOU!! THANK YOU JESUS

And thank you for relaying your story to the world, I'm sitting here in Australia, and not only will I take heed of this personally, I will also pass it on to others. My personal belief is that it will save someone else, of course who, where and when will never be known ... it is impossible to determine something that didn't happen - if that makes sense.

Thank god you got help in time.
I always put my tablets on the table before I take them just so that more than 1 doesn't come out too.
The other thing I have is a personal alarm & I wear that at home always. I press that if need help & there is a box/unit that the monitoring service call me on. They ask what is wrong & do I need an ambulance etc.
They are then able to give the ambulance service the details & they have my medical details, emergency contact (hubby) etc. Well worth having & unfortunately I have had to use it too & it has been worth it's weight in gold.
I know it is available in different forms in Australia & would investigate if it is there in other countries.
I usually wear a sos necklace with all my details but my medications keep changing at the moment so not adjusting it till things steady down.
