I wonder how many of us have utilized the many agencies that can help us.

Although I am in my 50's now, Vesid, now called Acess, is helping me go back to school to rehabilitate into a new career. Possibly, full time but I suspect part time will be plenty for me, and I will be able to supplement my SSD. So far I am having a very positive experience with them. They are helping with tuition, books, and even will give me mileage for my gas expenses. My last semester starts in Jan. and I will graduate in May with an associates degree in Office Management. I will never be able to work as a chemist again, I cannot handle the chemicals. i think that's why I won my SS claim so quickly. But , I hope someday to get useful again. An office job should be a safer option, right?

Anyway, I wonder how many others have taken advantage of some of the help that is available to us, and if their experiences were positive ones.

I've never heard of this organization Acess, but it sounds like you hit pot luck when you did! Yes, an AA degree in office management will bring you many opportunities, full or part time. Congratulations to you, and good luck.

Vocational and Education Services for Individuals with Disabilities, (VESID) is now called ACESS. You can find more about it at the SS website and through the Ticket-to-Work program. I attended their introduction at my local Dept. of Labor office. There is really a lot of help for us, but we have to do the footwork. Once you get a counselor, you'd be surprised at how much help they are in helping you to go back to school, or work. And they help you preserve your benefits too if you do go back to work.
