This subject was raised awoke ago. I was prescribed this. At first it seemed to be working very well. As of late I have had sharp shooting pains from my knees up to my groin. Don't know it is a side effect or a new symptom of MS. It is not an exacerbation as I have SPMS.

Any thoughts? I do go see my Doctor in December. He wants to check how the Ampyra is or isn't working.

I'm interested in how Ampyra will work as I was just prescribed it and should receive it on Friday, 3 month trail to see if it will help with my walking as well.

Try stopping the Ampyra. If the pain stops you know you have the culprit.

As I mentioned in my message to you, producing pain was the reason why I stopped Ampyra. When I stopped Ampyra, the pain stopped. When I started Ampyra, the pain returned.

I've been taking Ampyra for about two months. My Neuron thought it may help with my balance and walking. It hasn't seemed to help so far and I've had new shooting pains and wobbliness with my left leg, which is my good one, for the last week. At this point, I'm thinking it isn't worth the money.

Thank you all for sharing. I have decided not to continue the Ampyra. I go to the Neurologist in December for him to evaluate this drug and it's effects on my walking ability.

At first my husband I felt like it worked but I am in such terrible pain and can barely walk. I stopped it yesterday. I only hope it doesn't take long to stop affecting me this way.

After quitting the Ampyra I could not walk at all. I had to use a walker to get anywhere in the house. I couldn't even walk walk to where I needed to go. I resumed the Ampyra today and I am walking again!

Guess I will have to talk to the Neurologist about this?

Are you having the same pain now that you are back on Ampyra? This medication really works for you, I hope it is not the cause of your pain.

No, I am not having the pain anymore. I think it was a drug interaction from something else. I quit another drug at the same time.

I am also on Ampyra, didn't notice a great deal of difference, then 6 months later someone here on DS mentioned magnesium. I take 600 mg/day and noticed a marked improvement in my walking after only three days. Neuro wants me to stay on both. Nice side effect - softer stools!

When I took Ampyra on day 3 my stiffness was so bad, my blood pressure was really high, I had problems focusing and breathing, my balance had never been so bad. I stopped it the next day even though my dr. said to try it for a few more days. No way was I listening to anyone but myself. Noy sure why I reacted that way but I have 2 unopened bottles in my pill cabinet. Maybe someday I will try it again.
