I had an appt scheduled yesterday with and ENT to rule out inner ear as a cause of the dizziness so I kept it to see what he would say. He wants me to do an ENG test to determine if the dizziness is ear related (which I know it is not, but will do the test to be sure). He is also going to do a CT of the cervical spine and inner auditory ear canals. I have had brain MRI, but I guess those stop about mid ear and don't go any lower. Here are a few more questions...
Before I start that list I have one really stupid question...I have a problem with my eyes and light. It doesn't cause pain but it's like images burn into my eyes really bad and really fast and won't go away. Anything bright (being outdoors or looking at a computer monitor does it). Everyone has done that thing where they stare at something for 20 seconds and close their eyes and see the inverse. Well this is sort of what I am talking about but it is almost instantaneous with me and sticks in my vision almost constantly. Enough that it impairs my vision. I have no idea what to call this to even google it and see what it is related to. Thought I'd take a shot in the dark and see if anyone here knows what that could be. OK, on to easier questions...LOL
1. Can MS cause sudden episodes of dizziness?
2. Can CT pick up lesions in spine or just MRI?
3. Has anyone found anything that helps with the horrible shaking on exertion? Sometime my whole body, sometime just the body part i'm trying to exert.
4. Anyone know any good docs around Dayton or Columbus area in Ohio to rule in or out MS.
5. Does anyone have palpitations from MS flare ups?
The past week and a half I have just been so tired I could hardly do anthing. Intermittent episodes of dizziness. My right eye keeps getting blurry, then will clear up then repeat. One side of my face gets tingly and can stay that way for hours or even a day at a time. Constantly feel nauseated, no appetite, but if I don't eat I feel like I get sicker. I've lost 15 lbs during this episode. Last episode I lost 14. Any other time my weight stays stable. I was 180 lbs in 2004 and am now 135 with no attempt at weight loss. But I don't lose it gradually, I lose it suddenly like a lb a day for a week or two, then it tapers off again for maybe even a year or so. I am just so frustrated. I am alive but in a sense my life has been taken away from me. Out of my control and no one can tell me why or how to fix it.
Thank you all for being so kind and patient with me. ;)

They sent me for an MRI and the lesions showed up with the contrast dye. So, yes, dizziness is a symptom of MS. So are visual disturbances. MRI of your head should show your inner ears. I thought I had an ear infection, but the Dr. said the type of double vision I had ruled it out.
Try taking dramamine or meclizine and eat a saltine cracker. It's safe, over the counter, and it can really help the nausea.
Feel better!
1. yes for me
2. dunno
3. peppermint tea and lots of rest it's my bodies way of saying it's tired.
4. dunno
5. yes i have had them and they drive me nuts just have to sit and work through them
good luck
The eye thing, I'm not clear on, but the blurriness is something that is common. An opthamologist SHOULD be able to tell if your optic nerve is inflamed if a neuro hasn't checked.
The numbness is common too. I get dizzy alot, and shake with exertion, but have found that only rest relieves it. I don't have palpitations, and I'm not sure if a CT scan is sensitive enough to pick up lesions, but I really don't know. And the fatigue...oh my, I could write a novel about the fatigue.
Keep asking questions, and don't let them brush you off...and we're here for you.
If you have a chapter of the MSAA, do the same thing with that group.
That sounds so much like what I have. They have put me on supplements and told me to drink gatorade instead of water throughout the day even thinking it may be electrolyte related but it just doesn't prevent it from happening. They have checked my heart too every which way. I have read that MS can affect the autonomic nervous system (which is responsible for things like heart rate, BP, body temp, sweating, etc).
The vision thing is insane. It is the horrible camera flash spots. But this has been going on for almost a week this episode. Makes me want to wear sunglasses all day even in the house. :(
