My Avonex comes tomorrow trying to figure out when to start.
I'm driving my mother from WY to FL at the end of Jan a 4 to 5 day trip.
Not sure of the side affects I was on betasuron about 10 years ago felt pretty craping the day after. I guess I'm just a little nervous about stabbing self again.
The real questions is I will be flying back to WY in Feb. the pharmacy told me to take it in my carry on .
Not sure how long I will be in Florida so have to make sure I have enough weeks if i stay longer
Does anyone have experience flying or with the airlines with having prefilled syringes getting on the plane with the recent increase in airport security?
Any information would be appreciated

As far as taking the medication I would strongly suggest not taking it until you are settled in wherever you're staying in FL. Take it in the evening so you can sleep through most of the side effects. I've been on Avonex for 1 year...I usually don't have an issue with it now - might make me tired, but the first few months I was quite slow and sometimes felt a bit of pain. You do NOT want to be in the car driving the day after you take the injection. I did a road trip about 6 months after I started Avonex and I was actually fine, but doing that right at the beginning when you're body is trying to get used to this stuff might not be a good idea.

I also used an insulated lunch bag, that was purchasable from places that sell backpacks and such.
I kept mine with a ice pack and I also had no problem with it on the airlines. However, it is wise to have a letter with you to take through the check point when you are flying, in case the security needs to see a medical reason for it.
I also suggest you get the needle disposal container that you can get at a Walgreen's or Wal Mart or such. It makes for easy and safe disposal no matter which state you are in.
I had no problems when I flew with Avonex.

I recently traveled with my Betaseron, no problems at the airport.
I only ever took them on an airline once. There was absolutely no problem whatsoever. It might have helped that the syringes were inside one of the insulated boxes. They look very "medical". It fit very neatly underneath the seat, and I didn't even forget to take it with me when the flight landed !
