So I've been taking Gilenya and it works great! Now all of a sudden my insurance is refusing to pay for it, so now I have to start taking Copaxone. I'm terrified of needles and I can't feel my stupid hands, so I'm a little nervous.

Has anyone ever had to deal with insurance companies bullying you into taking a cheaper drug?

my neuro is trying to switch me from Rebif to Tecfidera and insurance is denying it - I can only guess that it is a cost based decision

Mine is the process right now, I hope my ins will approve the bg12 as I have severe reactions to the copax injections.

One word - FIGHT-. And often these drug manufacturers have financial assistance programs. Call and ask. This is your life we are talking about. If something is working you should fight like hell to stay on it.

I know a little something about drug development........even so I do not know where they up with $54,000 a year for BG-12 (Tecfidera) ???

Often the drug companies have a payment plan for when insurance companies will not cover the medication. Or sometimes the nurses will call and manage to get coverage when the patient is denied.

This makes me so mad. Please fight the insurance company all that you can, and let us know what the outcome is. I hope that you get your way and are allowed to go back to Gilenya. But, check the manufacturer for a payment program for this drug. Good luck.
