Anyone out there in MS land ever gotten a GAMMA GLOBULIN SHOT? They gave it to us in boot camp when I was in the MARINES. We were told nothing as to what it was or why. Probably another fine government test. Any way, our problem is the Immune System. It's too active, how did it get this way? Here's what I found on HealthBoards Message Board. posts
Gamma Globlin is not a vacine. It is an immune stimulant. It is made into a thickish serum. Just wondering what is in it besides the medical stuff.
Does anybody have information on what ingredients(other than the obvious) are in gamma globulin shots and intravenous immunoglobulin? Searches on the web talk about the protiens involved and what it is excactly, but do not talk about what added ingredients are in the serum, like aluminum, etc.
Description Immune Globulin Intravenous (Human) [IGIVI, Gammagard S/ D*, is a solvent/ detergent treated, sterile, freeze-dried preparation of highly purified immunoglobulin Gy (IgG) derived from large pools of human plasma. The product is manufactured by the Cohn-Oncley cold ethanol fractionation process followed by ultrafiltration and ion exchange chromatography. Source material for fractionation may be obtained from another U. S. licensed manufacturer. The manufacturing process includes treatment with an organic solvent/detergent mixture, 12 composed of tri-n-butyl phosphate, octoxynol 9 and polysorbate 80.
Now I'm still new to all this and probably taking a shot in the dark here. But, if your given something to stimulate. Which means boost to me, and you don't need it. This can't be a good thing.
Even though I posted this. I'm realy not sure what this all means. I guess if I knew the cause of it all it would be easier. But boosting the immune system for no reason in boot camp makes me wonder if that's where it all started.

Perhaps the army did those shots in boot camp because they were planning on the possibility of the people in boot camp being exposed to some kind of virus? It's a scary thought.
I have heard the MS immune system to be a misguided system, not an overactive immune system. Because it is misguided, its like shooting a gun without aiming. People with MS should not do or take anything to strengthen their misguided immune system. They shouldn't strengthen their immune system, not because its overactive, because it is misguided.
Because an MS immune system is like an unaimed gun, a person should not put more bullets in it.. Not a rapid fire gun, just unaimed. (I don't know gun terminology, excuse the missing terms in my analogy)
The interferons, weaken the misguided immune system so it cannot do as much damage.
Strengthening your immune system if it was already misguided would not have been good for you.
One theory is a person gets mono or strep throat and the immune system attacks the Epstein-Barr virus, which causes mono and then starts to confuse it with the body's own myelin(Myelin Basic Protein), which has a very similar chemical composition and continues attacking a persons own Myelin.
after the mono is gone. Thats one theory of how MS starts..
I see where your getting at, are the proteins in the GAMMA GLOBULIN SHOT the same as the Epstein-Barr Virus. Which might cause the immune system to mistakenly attack the mylen.
Did you feel sick after you got that shot? That would indicate your immune system was attacking the gamma gobulin. Like a person gets mono and then the immune system confuses the mylen with the mono virus? Did you get sick with the shot and then your body started attacking the gamma gobulin then confused it with you own myelin.
It sound pretty far fetched but I don't know enough about the chemical concentration if the two substances. If it were me, I would want to find out.
Boosting(enhancing) your immune system would not have caused your immune system to become misguided. If your immune system was already misguided boosting your immune system would not have been a good thing for you.
Whether the shot could have caused your immune system to become misguided...did you get sick from the shot? Which would indicate an immune response that could have then become misguided. Like momo or strep.
Its really one of those interesting things to think about- but since the cause of MS is still unknown, there is no way you will ever be able to determine if the shot caused MS.
I'm don't know what the difference is between gamma gobulins and immunogobulins?
--I think I am reading gamma gobulin is a type of immunogoblins and that is a treatment FOR MS. So it may have preserved some of your brain tissue.-----

The new MS meds are targeting immune system "B" cells and immune system "T" cells, that's why some docs recommend immunoglogulin therapy is a latter treatment option for MS.
Boot Camp may have helped you with the gamma gobulin shot.
