It can take a while to feel the difference after steroids, like 2 week to a month.
Sorry bout you tummy. Someone should have told you to take something with the steroids, like Zantac, Pepcid etc.

Oh yeah, I always feel worse afterward too, I think from the quick withdrawl from the steroids.

Yes Iv steroids can make you feel like a piece of crap...and sometimes it does take up to two weeks to a month....but now if I am put on Iv's for some type of lose of function...it usually comes back after the 3rd treatment.

Yes you can get a kidney or bladder infection if you don't push a lot of water...I mean a lot. Plus drink the water will help flush the system of the iv's solution.

I have the heartburn bad too....but since I started taking Prilosec? it fixed the problem....so look for a strong heartburn med and it will help with that!

i did a five day oral dose...now doing i.v 10 days on...then 3 days off..4 on..3 off 4 on 3 off 4 on then 38 days oral...geezz should be able to kick someones ass by then i would think...i just added an over the counter antacid ..zantac to my daily meds....and asked my dr. for imatrex for the raging headaches...sigh....

and yep..still feel like crap here as well...sigh....

A 3 day drip has always helped with all my numbness and pain. Only issues i had were minor abdomial cramps, and feeling like a maniac (which i enjoy). Maybe im chemically inbalanced, love the roids both mentally and physically :+)

maybe u need a longer period on the IV treatment???

I just finished myself. Am on the taper down. I have done them before but I too noticed this time that it did me completely different. Been off the IV for one full week now - my taste buds are gone....which never happened before and have numbness in my middle face, hands and toes. I was actually looking forward to the steriods because I wanted to get my house clean....not this time.

I just finished 5 days of IV and then a taper for a couple of weeks . Even with the taper I felt so awful. My Neuro made sure I was on some kind of heartburn medication, Steroids are really hard on your stomach. I've been completely off the steroids for 4 days now and am starting to feel normal again.
I had a flare once that continued on for a couple of weeks after I finished the IV steroids. My neuro said the steroids continue to work for a couple of months after you've stopped taking them. I hope you feel better soon. Be sure to getin about the kidney infection. I know I get big flare ups if I have a bladder infection. That could be the reason you aren't feeling any better. Steroids lower your resistance to infection and can in fact blow a little infection out of control very fast. Get in to see your Dr. and update us when you can.

well to start with..after seeing the head nurse today..sigh..there is no three days off..sigh....that alone was enough to have me in tears..sigh...poor nurse..smile..

and my ms clinic as of two weeks ago has me down as ppms..which to them is a write off..sigh....no help...medical history to complicated to deal with....wont bother...i have intractable epilepsy..history of stroke...ppms..osteo arthritus..b-12 deficeccency..sigh..you name it..grin..i most likely have it...rofl

i had my family dr. call in referral to new ms clinic in ottawa...hopefully they will put me in another class and help out more..sigh..they are the ones who ordered the steriods...smile..

mine started off with the usual leg pain getting really really bad...it was already bad to begin with as it had been for three years....you grow used to it..smile..but this was getting intense...and spasms...in palms and soles of feets..new places for me...sigh...then the leg pain started in the right leg as well...i knew i was in trouble then...called my ms clinic..they suggested i had a bladder infection..rofl...so yep up i go to pee in a bottle..grin...much to the dismay of the er recpitionst..by the way...never ever piss of a er recpitionst..it will come back to bite you in the ass...they are the ones who book your rooms...and yes they can be vinditcitve...sigh...(witch eventually 2nd time aroudn put me on gertrac/phsic ward) would have much more fun on the phsic side i think..grin

so they had no room the first time..i came home with 50mg for 5 days...smarties..sigh...i was not sleeping for the pain....now had already informed them that now had drop foot in right leg as well as left...and both feet are no longer just dropping..they drag...oh vay..grin..
two days off steriods..cant swallow...throat closes all the time at this point..have to drink through straw head tilted down...i knew i was going back up and staying in...so i sent husband to bed..kept middle one up..and packed bag etc....went up the next morning...and got a room with a view so to speak due to charmming recepitionist..sigh...
6 days in...roommate was driving me nuts...now epilepsy at that point had become paramount as i was sezieng to much from lack of sleep....i had to go home..i am supposed to be still in hospital for yet another 8 days...but hell...by the time i would have finished paying for the t.v. alone i could have bought a plasma for the bedroom..smile..

so 8 more days with i.v. in..sigh..then 38 with oral steriods...need drop foot brace for right foot... still cant swallow properly...but pain is mananged with meds...finally for the first time in three years.. yes im hoping for more results than this so far..smile..but i have faced the reality that i do need the brace..and will most likely not recover that one....

but it is nice to have it treated so agressively..yes i still feel like crap..grin...and yeah im mad as hell that my previous ms clinic has left me to hang out to dry for so long now as if being dx as ppms means im not worth the trouble of bothering with..sigh..

best advice....if your steriods are not working....ask for something different...if they give you an oral dose...and it does not help...or if you notice you are getting worse...and especially if it involves anything to do with swallowing..chocking in your sleep etc...get help...and get it quickly ..go to the ER...dont wait to talk to your neuro..especially if you have a passive one..or half assed one....sigh....or yeah you will be in trouble there...

mine should have been headed off at the pass before the move..when it all started...i called that far back..hell i had an appt. back on august 12 with the clinic..and it was the oh lets wait and see if it goes away routine...we have meds..but you have epilepsy as well crap...sigh....and now here i am....taking enough steriods to take out my spouse im sure..grin....

and like vangundy said.....im not enjoying the ride at all...sigh

it kills your imune symstm...i now have thrush and a cold...sitting here with both shivers and being hot...the overdose whatever you call it alert sheet is a hoot..grin...all the alert signs that are on it...are the things that i went in for....the only one they can catch me on is when and if i lose concoseinces....rofl...

and yes drink plenty of water...not only can you get kidney stones...you ..and here is an ironic bit of info...grin...get a bladder infection..rofl....and personally i will be dammed before i go see that receptionist from hell and pee in a cup again...grin...lol

good news from all of this story...the Central health care system in town...and i do mean the whole central health care system...grin..from red cross...to foot care...to nurses..etc..etc..all accross the board...the head lady is comming to do an home assessment on our house next week...rofl...everyone in the house is disabled..grin....and we qualify under every umbrella of services available...and they want to help set some up for everyone....and help as much as they can....we were a casual appt. for next week..until today..now we head the list..rofl....yep we are a sad sad group..grin....lol

but please in all seriousness.....if you feel the treatment of first steriods did not help...or new symptoms came on while you were on them or shortly after....GET HELP....dont listen to anyone who says to wait...or see what happens...there are dr.s at emergency who can and will help you out there....but watch the reception ladies..grin
