I was diagnosed over 30 years ago. It wasn't until 5 years ago that my diagnosis changed to SPMS. The good thing is I don't take any of the CRAB drugs, so no more injections. I don't take any infusions or pills.

I do volunteer in a clinic testing drugs for MS patients to stop MS in it's tracks.

My husband has had RRMS for about 10 years. So he still takes supplements to try and reduce inflammation.

I just read my reply....it made no sense. My nurse said that because there were medications available to take at diagnosis, IF people continue changing to SPMS it will probably be at a later date, if at all.

I too was told those statistics were from when people didn't have the disease modifying drugs we now have. My neuro said the number of people who progress will be much lower. Pharmd I know you want answers, but there are only half answers to this disease. Everyone will experience differently, with some symptoms in common. I was DX more than 30 yrs ago, but had symptoms since my teens. I have had my share of attacks but I am still walking ( ok I wobble ) I drive, garden, take care of my house etc. I just do it a little slower than most. : )

I was diagnosed with mild MS in 2000 but within a couple of years it became RRMS. By 2009 it was confirmed to be SPMS after I had some bad relapses and never properly recovered. MY SPMS has pretty well settled down, although I do get bad periods with spasm and breathing difficulties, Hope I am the exception to the rule.
