I have extreme pain in my knees too and I don't know the cause of it. I have not injured my knee, but it makes me cry out in pain. Even when I'm sleeping, and I go to move my leg, my knees will scream. What is the cause of it? MS?

I have knee pain too. Sometimes I feel as though the knee is bending backwards instead of forward and the pain is terrible. I have sharp stabbing pains in my knees that will almost make me fall if I don't grab something.

My MS neuro sent me to a Reumatologist and he said I hope your MS Neuro isn't giving up on you having MS. Sooooo I assume that's whats causing this to happen.

Yes Kathi, that is it exactly. Like it is bending backwards.

It is so hard to know what to blame on MS and what might be something else. But this pain always comes when all my muscles go into this spasm.

Awwwe Tarra so sorry you have this too....it's so painful. I hope this passes quickly for you and please know that it's usually a couple months between episodes of having this happen for me so hopefully yours will be few and far between also.

Let your neuro know whats happening to you on your next visit, maybe he can help you.

You are smart to use your cane during this time, you don't want to fall hon and that's what will happen if you don't.

I too have knee pain, but it is more like they are stiff. My nuero said alot of MS patients develop knee problems because we hyper-extend our knees backwards to lock them in place to help with lack of strength and balance. I have been doing this since I was i my teens.

Coincidently, I made this complaint at my last neuro's visit, and my last PCP visit. My neuro gave me a referral for an xray, and my PCP refered me to an orthapediac doc. I guess I will get the xrays first and see what that produces. I was just going to ignore the pain, but this thread has now got me thinking. My pain does match the pain described by Kath too. It just doesn't seem like a MS symptom to me, but I haven't injured my knees either. Very weird.

lchappel, definitely get it checked out, despite what I am about to say.

In my case, I think it is the MS. Because it only happens when I am in complete spasm like this. I think my muscle are so tight and in spasm, throwing off the way I walk, making my knee bend wrong or whatever.

If it continues when I am not in spasm, then I will get it checked out, but in my case, I see a clear correlation.

I have knee pain aswell and have serious bone issues in my left knee. It looks as if a piece of bone flaked off at the knee joint. I had to have surgery to remove it but they couldn't get all of it. It is all chewed up there from getting soft and I need a knee replacement!
With that being said, there was a link to a ms news website on here that talked about bone problems in early stages of MS. I can't find it now, has anyone come across this?

Strange I got a sensation a couple months ago in my left knee that left the back of my knee ( behind leg) in pain! And just this morning the front of my right knee was having that same sensation?? Almost like a spasm?? I yi yi...
