so today at church your's truly was walking down stairs and felt a very sharp pain up the back of my left calf muscle. thought, oh, i just pulled it. it'll be ok. wrong. two hours later i'm unziping my knee boots because my calf is killing me. so then, i go to a walk in clinic and a steriod shot and prescrption for an anti inflamitory and a pair of crutches later, i find out i didn't pull the muscle, it tore. and now i'm having mild muscle spasms in that leg, and IT HURTS! please, i want off this roller coaster called ms! on the plus side at least i have an excuse to sit down and teach :)

So sorry to hear that happened. Whats the plan to fix it?

dr told me that was a risk with my shoulder so im nice to it but sometimes I forget

sorry for the pain you are in...how exactly did they or you figure you tore the muscle?

thanks for the kindness! the doc said it's torn. i have a knot the size of a goose egg on the back of my calf. it's not a blood clot- that's one of the things he checked me for. i've pulled muscles before and this didn't feel like it but of course i had too much to do right then to go. i'm supposed to use ice for the first 24 hours then heat after, use crutches for 2 weeks and take anti inflamitories as well as my muscle relaxers. doc said wrapping it won't help and nothing is broke so i have to baby it. if it gets worse or doens't start improving in a week i'm supposed to go back. they are also suggesting pt- i've set it up to start after the holidays- because my muscles are spastic and stay very tight. he thinks that may be what caused it.

That is exactly my newest symptom. It would creep up on me when I was stressed Now, I have it every day. I have to take my baclofen and I use 15-20 compression hose and they really help.

P.S. I didn't tear a muscle -- it's spasticity that can turn into a charlie horse if not contained. I have to have baclofen and hose and all is fine.

OUCH. MY LEFT CALF JUST STARTED IT'S SYMPATHY PAIN HOPE THE KNOT DOESN'T SHOW UP. GGRR.
SO SORRY FOR YOUR ADDED PAIN.
THE COMPRESSION SOCKS SOUND LIKE SOMETHING GOOD TO TRY.i NEED A NEW COMPRESSION SLEEVE.ALSO.
GET BETTER SOON.

Sorry for your painful calf. I would wear a compression stocking to keep it controlled if you have one & to avoid further damage. I often have to wear them after any damage so have some at home ready to wear.
Please take care & do apply the heat. Don't overdo it & be careful on the crutches too.

Ouch! Hope you are feeling a bit better. Easy does it when you start PT!

Thanks for asking Ellen, yes I'm doing better. I can put weight on it and walk as long as I don't bend it too much. Thankfully I can teach sitting so I'm ok at work. At this point the crutches are hurting me worse than the muscle so I'm mostly doing without. I am taking it easy and its given me an even greater respect for people with mobility issues.
