Should I get tested

Hi I'm Wes. I have Hep C and most of the ms symptoms and am 64 years old and am wondering if it will do any good to get the MRI and spinal tap tests. My cousin had it. I have 50% fatty liver, pn, foot dragging, chest pains, poor balance including falling, back muscle pain, trouble swallowing. I am close to Mayo Clinic. I am being treated for symptoms (not ms).

You deserve to know if you've got this thing or not, don't you think? I do. :) I don't believe you need a spinal tap to indicate things tho. A neurologist can tell by your symptoms and physical whether you would need something like that. (I never had one.)

I think you owe it to yourself to know what you're dealing with.

Does it make any difference? All they can treat is symptoms, right? Or, does it help psychologically to know?

Hi Wes I havnt got my Dx yet but now that im starting to go threw the long process of finding out... i think its worth it. I just want to get on the right meds to feel alittle better and take the symptoms to a level that i can tolerate. I think even if you are being treated for symptoms they might not be treating with meds specific to MS maybe they could get you on the right meds and more help. Just my thoughts but it does seem to be a very personal choice of when someone says enough is enough and they go threw the process to find out....for me its taken me a long time to get to that point.

I personally think you should follow through with it. The treatment slows the progression of MS down. There are medicines for the symptoms. There are other options too. You need to know what your dealing with.
