Hi

I just wanted to find out whether anyone has ever experienced extreme eye pain. I woke up at two this morning with such pressure inside my eyes that it felt as if they would explode. I took some paracetamol to try and alleviate the pain, but it kept getting worse, eventually causing me to vomit, I put a cold cloth on my eyes, putting it onto my eyes was extremely painful. Eventually my body core temperature dropped and I managed to get 30 min sleep.

Anybody experienced this before?

Could be optic neuritis! Call your Neuro. They can give you steroids to combat the pain. Good luck and let us know !

Oh yes. I have horrible eye pain at times. Nothing much helps. Im already on narcotics for chronic pain in my legs, feet and ankles . I take advil for it and a gel ice pack, helps a little not a cure. Csn only wait til it goes away, udually several hrs, a hal dsy at most. Never thought about optic neuritis till recently as I always thougjt optic neuritis was double or blurred vission.

Thanks everyone, appreciate the input. Have mailed the Neuro, went to the chemist and took a Migrain cocktail and two sleeping tablets, it is still in the background, but at least I can work today, although slightly sleepy.

Waiting on the Neuro's response, just came out of a minor relapse, might not be over it yet.

I have not had it to the extreme you are describing, but keeping my neck stretched and loose has helped.

That is really serious for it to wake you up out your sleep. I have not had this problem but I sure would like to know what your Dr. says about this. Keep us informed and good luck!

Hi

No response from the Neuro as yet, been a week, still have a mild headache behind my eyes, taken pain meds, but that does not touch it. Hopefully the neuro will respond, believe he is currently on course, could be the reason for his delay in response.

Will let you know when I finally do hear.

If you currently see an ophthalmologist I would call them to set up an appointment as well. I started off having headaches, changes in vision, buzzing in my ears which turned out to be pseudotumor cerebri sometimes referred to as Idiopathic intracranial hypertension which is like hypertension of the brain. It causes some of the symptoms you are describing. This lead to my initial dx of MS and my neuro and eye dr. work together. I'm treating mine without medication (diet and regular visits to monitor changes in vision).

I have not experience this problem. I would definitely contact the doctor. I hope it gets better for you.
