My neuro did prescribe steroids when I was first dx, but now I avoid them, choosing to battle on. Well fitting , enclosed shoes are a big help and I take a couple of mild pain killers if it gets bad. I also took an anti inflammatory for awhile but didn't experience any improvement.
What does your neuro hope to find with the mri? As far as I know, the foot pain is caused by damaged nerves and until someone finds a way to repair the mylin I can't see that my feet will improve.
My foot pain has lessened quite a bit since the beginning - it's been nearly six years - but I am now quite clumsy on my feet. I walk every day, because I still can!
All the best!
What has helped, apart from the shoes (which I have even worn to bed when nearly crying with pain), but also good foot massage from a professional. I also tried all deep heat type treatments...
I was sent to physical therapy (the last place I should have ever been sent as they had me doing a bunch of exercises that set the MS off badly).
I then went to my doctor who prescribed a gel you can rub on the areas that have inflammation in the up to 4X a day.
The name of the gel is VOLTAREN GEL.
I don't know how much it costs but my insurance dinged me $40.00 for a 90-day (5 huge tubes of this stuff) supply of it.
You might ask about this, especially if you need something to take down the inflammation (Voltaren is an NSAID) and good if you don't really care to take a bunch of pills that can sicken the stomach greatly (i.e. iburofen (aka "Motrin",) naproxen and Voltaren (non-generic name for this substance). All of these drugs are anti-inflammatoy drugs that can cause bleeding ulcers, etc. Caution is advised and personally, I would strongly advice CAUTION with these drugs as I have had a horrific reaction to them in the past (hence the gel).
Sadly, these drugs in this particular class (NSIADS) do very little for the horrible pain I have in my feet. :(
I'll try just about anything these days!
Best of luck!
OMG
Am I progressing?
