Thanks Lynne. Marc is an artist and drives around NYC with his apple 4 I-Phone mounted on his wheelchair. I am a long-time photographer too - 1 more thing I can't do anymore. He found away around the problem of holding it!!

Biogen did a comparative study of Protandim vs BG-12. Which I think is a scary drug as in its fungicide packet form people died, Always a downside to these new drugs. BUT they did a comparative study with the ingredients of Protandim so there obviously is merit to the alternative - esp. for those of us that don't have flares and enhancing lesions any more - just steady decline.

I'm so glad to hear you are now home. When you say "due to lack of skill" - I presume you mean on the part of your care team at the hospital. If so, I'm sorry to hear that and hope you are back up to normal soon.

i get marc's blogs too, he is one interesting guy, very funny and knowledgeable. i was looking up all the supplements and the protandim after hearing an old youtube with montel williams who takes it.

Some ideas seem to pan out in the light of RESEARCH others do not.

Ellagic acid(anti-atherosclerosis, etc) ,
R-Lipoic Acid (anti-oxidant, good for liver, etc) ,
Niacin (heart/lipid issues),
Glutathione (key antioxidant) all seem to have VERY helpful affects on the body and the research backs it up. You can go to pubmed or Linus Pauling Institute and look up the positive results they have had

Protandim ...ahhh not so much so. At least right now there has not been much research. It is SUPPOSED to increase SOD million times better than other antioxidants..I have not found any evidence. If it did why not do a research project via NIH??

In response to Reply #6 EPagain: Protandim has had and is having extensive research performed on it, though not specifically for MS. The NIH has sponsored 4 of the peer-reviewed published studies. You can find them at:

Currently there are 13 peer reviewed studies ranging from skin cancer (LSU), to vascular malfunction and stents (The American Herat Association and Ohio State) to Duchennes Muscular to Dystrophy (Harvard) to NRF2 (Colorado), and more.

Look up Protandim in pubmed.gov and you will see all the research.

The Mayo Clinic is currently in its 8th year of a 1000 patient clinincal study on both Type 1 & 2 diabetes.

It is something you should look at more closely as it has worked in my family on all sorts of maladies that are just as crippling as MS.

and Protandim blog.

It's true that the same compounds are used in Prodandim AND BG-12 (market name Tecfidera)
Both drugs use a compound for an Nrf2 activator, a proven treatment for Oxidative Stress. Originally used as a treatment for Psoriasis
The big difference will be Protandim's natural compound is so much cheaper ($45/month) then I'm sure BG-12 (market name Tecfid era)
will cost. That price yet to be announced.

Biogen paid mil's for a head to head comparison between the two MS meds (Protandim and BG-12 (market name Tecfidera) using their Nrf2 compound. The evaluation was done by a MS researcher , Dr. D van Horssen, posted last Sept 2012 for a price of 5 mil

LifeVantage was unable to patent the Nrf2 compound because it's derived from all natural ingredients so, available from nature. I bet when Biogen uses a pharmaceutical name and ingredients, so they will be able to have it patented as such. Rest assured Protandim's original compound with plant names will not be used in Biogen's medication profile/label.

Also I read that another FDA delay of BG-12 (market name Tecfidera) release date is because Teva Pharmacuetals (Copaxone) filled a Citizen Petition (first amendment right) to the FDA stating that BG-12 (market name Tecfidera) potentially has worrying side effects profile (mostly Kidney) that further compromises MS patients taking the specified oral dosage. Teva had a CNS expert make this "research" claim on their behalf. A stall tactic no doubt that provides TEVA more time to release an oral version of BG-12 (market name Tecfidera) competitor.

What frustrates the heck out of me is the politic'ing games going on! Meanwhile MS patients like me who are not able to take Tysabri any longer because we tested positive for the JC Virus. We have to just keep waiting for BG-12
(market name Tecfidera)
to release so we can start taking a DMD again!
