For years, my oldest cat and I have had this love/hate relationship (frankly most of her life) which comes from my discovery of being allergic to cats 6 months after having adopting her. I have always held onto her, even though obviously have not been able to have much physical contact. She is about 15 1/2 years old, and it looks like she won't last more than a day or two.
I am trying to prepare the kids for it, talking about logistics about after, but her occasional seemingly inconsolable yowling and odd behaviour are getting to me. I can see where people have the temptation for euthanasia, but I want to see her to come to peace naturally, and wouldn't want to give her that stress (she dislikes the doctor more than me!)

Get a copy of ALL CATS GO TO HEAVEN to read to ur kids. It helps them see the positives after death. I had read ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN when we had to put our dog down. Is there a placein your house that u can seclude her to? That way you can help her stay comfortable. Cats tend to hide when they know their end is near.

If you are more comfortable having her at home-then yes having a comfy place to go is a good idea where she can feel safe and it is quiet, but you may want to be around her too.I have had to have some of my pets put to sleep, but that was when they were not eating and physically in pain.Some vets do come to the house.I am sorry your family is going thru this.I pray your friend goes in her sleep and does not linger when it is time. My thoughts go out to you Anne. I know losing a pet is like losing a child. I too hoe that your cat goes in its sleep, a peaceful passing. May you find comfort in the memories you have had with her.

Anne-I am glad your kitty is at peace and that she went quickly.Now you take good care of you and the kids.I certainly believe we will see our animals in heaven when we get there. Ellen

My experience is that you will know when it tis time to let a pet move on. Physical signs such as falling and not abel to control their bowels, etc. It is very sad and hard and I really feel for you.

I am afraid we will be having the same issue soon as one of the family dogs is 16 years old.

She is at peace. And we definitely feel her absence (15 years is a long time. . . most of the time I have lived in the apartment).

So sorry to hear of the loss of your kitty. It's so hard to not be sad that there are gone because they were always right next to you or walking in front of you to trip you.

I'm so sorry! I made the painful decision a little over a year ago to put my cat, Zoe-Zoe, to sleep :( It is an adjustment, but it does get better with time! Just think of the15 wonderful years you had to enjoy your kitty :D
