Are there very many folks on here that have "ports" for taking Tysabri?
I have been having lots of trouble with getting the veins to cooperate when getting my infusions.
The nurse recommended that I might like to go ahead and talk to the doctor about get a port, so, that the process of the infusion can be easier.

Apparently my veins are not liking to be poked much anymore!
The nurse said that some patients who use Tysabri, and some of her patients who use Chemo, have trouble, and therefore prefer to go ahead and get the port put in.

Anyone else on here have a port?

There was a posting on ports somewhere in here. Alot of negative and some positive to this port issue..

My experience and I could not even tell you how many iv's I have had.. I know it has got to be close to 100. As you doc if you can have them use a 24 guage needle. It is considered a child type iv needle, but if they do and iv in my hand they have to use the smallest needle.

The nurses have made to comment to me about getting a port put in, but I just cant bring myself there yet. I figured I only get a iv once a month now, so no.

On the previous postings alot of negative responses about the pain of getting one put in. I am sure you will get responses to this question. I hope whatever you decide is the right one for you. Hope everything turns out good for you. Take care

I would not recommend a port unless you needed to have an IV frequently instead of monthly.

I know someone in the Tysabri group has a port and really likes it. I'm not sure who, but look around there. It's not uncommon. I don't think I will ever get a port unless I need an IV more than once a month though. It all comes down to preference I suppose.
