I also sit on ice. One of the most effective ways to get relief is to have trigger point injections into the area, This is lidocaine and sometimes a little cortisone. It is done best by a physiatrist at a pain clinic. I actually am currently having it done - in my case the problem is caused by spasms.
Nice life with MS - nothing like getting shots in your butt to offset some other MS related problem. But hey--it works.

(stretches)
I now have acupuncture for a vairety of spasms & pains. It has fixed my frozen shoulder & given me more movement in arm. It does take several goes.
I go weekly & have laser acupuncture. I also have it for my legs & he only has to do it on one leg for it to work & it does.
The other thing as well as stretches is I bought a small mini bike trainer, it is the pedals that can be used for legs or arms. When you use an exercise bike or mini pedals it does help legs, ankles & hips.
Sitting on ice sounds painful, but the heat maybe I can do!
I will try anything!
