Aspartame - Artificial Diet Sweetener Unhealthy & Makes You Fat!
Because Monsanto's artificial sweetener aspartame (sold as "Nutrasweet," "Equal," and "Spoonful") is over 200 times sweeter than sugar, it's a common ingredient found in "diet" foods and has become a sweetening staple for dieters. Besides being a deadly poison (see page 42), aspartame actually contributes to weight gain by causing a craving for carbohydrates. A study of 80,000 women by the American Cancer Society found that those who used this neurotoxic "diet" sweetener actually gained more weight than those who didn't use aspartame products. Find out more about the deadly health risks posed by Monsanto's toxic sweetener on this website: www.aspartamekills.com
Stevia, a herbal sweetener is a healthy alternative.
The science is clear, the clinical tests were performed improperly, NutraSweet is allegedly being misused, many believe it was approved fraudulently by the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration), who refuses to revisit the evidence Several groups protested at the time against the approval, but Searle/Monsanto money prevailed. The NutraSweet revenues have been estimated in the trillions worldwide. Too bad for the dumb masses.

Its terrible the things we discover once we are ill.
On top search bar, look on discussions for aspartame and you'll see everything that has been posted previously.
I'm having gastric problems, dr said aspartame it's to blame for much of it. When I told him I was using eighteen envelopes for my coffee daily, he had a fit and said, to reduce to four max a day or use just plain old sugar. I did.
very good you brought this up,
Alma
We had both been diet coke drinkers and Equal user for years and years. Mom's fibro pain level (which she was taking narcotic pain relievers to ease) went down to a very tolerable level within a week or so and we haven't looked back since. Best move we ever made!
Now, when we drink a soda we go for just the regular kind (Dr. Pepper for me) and we use good old fashion sugar in our one cup of coffee each day.
Aspertame is POOP! its a man made bacteria, and when that bacteria defecates THAT is what aspertame is. Look it up! im serious
Splenda is made from cane sugar...true! BUT its chemically manipulated with formaldahyde and a bunch of other extremely neuro toxic chemicals.
Now they have this Nectrese stuff. SAME DEAL! its chemically manipulated fruit sugar. DONT DO IT!
Monsanto is simply evil in my book.

Title: First experimental demonstration of the multipotential carcinogenic effects [me-cancer causing effects] of aspartame administered in the feed to Sprague-Dawley rats.
Environ Health Perspect. 2006 Mar;114(3):379-85.
"The results of this mega-experiment indicate that APM is a multipotential carcinogenic agent, even at a daily dose of 20 mg/kg body weight, much less than the current acceptable daily intake. On the basis of these results, a reevaluation of the present guidelines on the use and consumption of APM is urgent and cannot be delayed."

Environ Health Perspect. 2006 September; 114(9): A516. Testing Needed for Acesulfame Potassium, an Artificial Sweetener
This reviews how FDA approved aspartame and acesulfame as sweetners. Then talks about several studys that showed negative carcinogenic effects.
"The chemicals did indeed test negative, but that negative result did not advance our understanding of potential carcinogenicity of acesulfame."
Then the review talks about how more studys are needed which yes they should do.
*********** HOWEVER, if we have several studies showing the chemical to cause cancer or tumors(see below info too) in animals shouldn't we error on the side of caution and pull them from our food?? Instead the govt is waiting to do a study on the mechanism on HOW it has these negative effects.

" According to researchers and physicians studying the adverse effects of aspartame, the following list contains a selection of chronic illnesses which may be caused or worsened by the chronic, long-term ingestion of aspartame. (Mission Possible 1994, Stoddard1995)*:"
Brain tumors, Multiple sclerosis, Epilepsy, Chronic faigue syndrome,
Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's, Mental retardation, Lymphoma,
Birth defects, Fibromyalgia, Diabetes, Arthritis (including Rheumatoid)

" *Note: In some cases such as MS, the severe symptoms mimic the illness or exacerbate the illness, but do not cause the disease."
scroll 4/5 way down and read this. It really will make you think twice about the Comment#2 claims made by the NutraSweet Aspartame manufacturer
"mid-1970s the FDA was investigating wrong-doings of the aspartame manufacturer and stated the facts exactly as they found them:
"[The manufacturer] lied and they didn't submit the real nature of their observations because had they done that it is more than likely that a great number of these studies would have been rejected simply for adequacy. What Searle did, they took great pains to camouflage these shortcomings of the study. As I say filter and just present to the FDA what they wished the FDA to know and they did other terrible things for instance animals would DEVELOP TUMORS while they were under study. Well they would remove these tumors from the animals." [FDA Toxicologist and Task Force member, Dr. Andrian Gross (Wilson 1985)]
During the late 1970s and early 1980s, a number of key government and FDA officials left their jobs to work with companies related to the aspartame industry (GAO 1986). This included key FDA officials such
as the head of the FDA Bureau of Foods becoming a Vice President of the National Drink Association and the FDA Commissioner becoming a high-paid consultant for the manufacturer's PR firm, BurstonMarsteller (Gordon 1987). "

Splenda [me-aka Sucralose many times used with Acesulfame] alters gut microflora and increases intestinal p-glycoprotein and cytochrome p-450 in male rats.
"Evidence indicates that a 12-wk administration of Splenda [me-in rats]exerted numerous adverse effects, including (1) reduction in beneficial fecal microflora, (2) increased fecal pH, and (3) enhanced expression levels of P-gp, CYP3A4, and CYP2D1, which are known to limit the bioavailability of orally administered drugs."
It decrease microflora by almost 50%. See other articles here for more info on what probiotics do for you which includs but is not limited to down-regulating inflammation and immunity, making B & K vitamins, helping you break down more of your nutrients so your body can use them, etc.

The comet assay with 8 mouse organs: results with 39 currently used food additives.
"We determined the genotoxicity of 39 chemicals currently in use as food additives. They fell into six categories-dyes, color fixatives and preservatives, preservatives, antioxidants, fungicides, and sweeteners."
"Amaranth, Allura Red, New Coccine, Tartrazine, Erythrosine, Phloxine, and Rose Bengal [me-food dyes] induced dose-related DNA damage in the glandular stomach, colon, and/or urinary bladder. All seven dyes induced DNA damage in the gastrointestinal organs at a low dose (10 or 100mg/kg). Among them, Amaranth, Allura Red, New Coccine, and Tartrazine induced DNA damage in the colon at close to the acceptable daily intakes (ADIs).
"Two antioxidants (butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)) [me-BHT used in food as preservative], three fungicides (biphenyl, sodium o-phenylphenol, and thiabendazole), and four sweeteners (sodium cyclamate, saccharin, sodium saccharin, and sucralose) also induced DNA damage in gastrointestinal organs. Based on these results, we believe that more extensive assessment of food additives in current use is warranted."

Chlorocarbons ( what Equal/Aspartame and Splenda are made of as chlorinated carbons) are also found in:
"AS SOLVENT; MFR OF INSECTICIDES, HERBICIDES, SOIL FUMIGANTS, BLEACHES, PAINTS & VARNISHES "
Me-Yeah know I am looking at other chlorocarbons and what they do and I wouldn't ingest any of the above stuff.
