Boy did I have a bad experience with a nurse today.
For those of you who do not know i live in a long term hospital
I have to have med approval for everything.
Besides MS I have rheumatoid arthritis I have been on steroids for months now. the steroid dose has recently been decreased.The last three day's I have been taking short acting pain med every 2 hours. I asked my nurse to phone my Dr. to get my steroids increased a bit. When she refused to do that I asked if I could get a stronger sleeping pill.. My way of thinking was it would be healthier to take one pill instead of taking pain every two hours all night long.my nurse refused to call the doctor telling me I have medication seeking the behavior.
the nurse came into my room a couple minutes later the nurse nurse did not know I was talking on the phone with my husband on the speaker setting, came into my room and proceeded to yell at me and a very condescending way. This went on for a couple of minutes and then I picked up my phone.to let her know I was on the phone with my husband.after she left I talked to my husband and he suggested that I ask for different nurse.
Five minutes later the nursing supervisor came into my room and she said she just was on the phone with my doctor and they got my steroid increased and my doctor was going to talk about better pain management in the morning. The nursing supervisor asked if I wanted her to phone my husband and tell him what they were doing.
I find it amazing how when they think a family member is involved they suddenly do their jobs

Long story short the doc came in this morning corrected my steroid dose and I am going to see my rheumatology doc next week.
The point I was trying to make last night is the nurse had no call to treat me the way she did. She actually yelled at me b/c I asked for better pain management. Go figure
