Hi, this sounds too f@#$ up !!! Unbelievable!!! Write a letter to the head, CEO or board and demand some action. It's your right. I don't know if where you live there is a patient advocacy office or something like that, is a mediator between you and Drs or hospital to provide you the services needed. Check it out!! Don't take it.

I don't understand, so what doctor do they want you to see? You are diagnosed already right? I hate these policies.

I do get headaches too recently, so I better say nothing till I get into the specialist's office I guess...

Yes, I was dx in 2001. I need help for my spasms so bad, not my headache, so the headache is irrelevant. I am still so confused.

I am calling tomorrow and pleading my case.

The MS Society had a very short list and they were the drs that would not see me and one dr that according to reviews is nothing but a pill pusher. In fact has been on probation by the State Medical Board for writing too many prescriptions and seeing too many patients in one day. He just sees a patient, gives them the prescription and out the door they go.

Sounds like you've been black-balled. Have you had any problems with any of your local doctors? Legal or not, this is done in some areas. Some docs will do it for patients who don't comply with instructions, some do it for patients who seek narcotics, some do it for patients who always show up late, and there are tons of other reasons. They know the lines not to cross, they can do it & stay within the law.

If you show up @ an ER, or urgent care center, they have to see you. They can address your acute spasticity issues, and then refer you to a neuro. That may be the easiest way for you to see a neuro @ this point, if you've been 'black-balled'.

No, only seen 2 neuros in the area. one I was in good standing with for 10 years until she moved to Oregon. The other I went to once, and when I had an issue he could not see me for 2 months so I dropped him. No canceled appointments.

As for narcotics, no issue there as I cannot take them due to chronic pancreatitis.

So, the only doctor info they have, is my old neuro, who as I said I was on good terms with and she was working with me.

The problem is, there are no real doctors here. I live in WV, a very rural area. Not many to choose from.

WV is known for it prescription drug abuse, but how can they see headache and assume I am seeking drugs? Should they not at least see me first to determine that.

I take no narcotics at all. In fact in the ER they find it hard to treat my pain as I have to refuse most medications. When I go in with my pancreatitis I can only take dilauded and then i ask for it to be a low dose and not to take more than 3 doses in any hospital visit due to side effects. And that is 2 hospital visits in a 10 year span.

I really do not understand this... Neuro's should do BOTH MS and headaches since both are usually neurological related. It's shocking me that they would refuse to treat you because you have both?!?!? Headaches are VERY common for MS patients, so how can that be? My neuro does both for me. UGH, what a load of crap. I hope you find some help SOON!!!

Of course, you can always tell them when you make an appointment that the headaches are gone and you need to be treated for spasticity. When you go in and they ask about the headaches, tell them you weren't having them the day that you called.

hmmmbird, that's kinda what I did. I called the first doctor back and they do take MS patients, I said I needed to be seen for my MS, I need to be able to walk... not seen for me headache. She said for my GP to send the referral back to them but remove the headache part because he will not see headache patients.

So, I called my GP and left a message asking that they do that, waiting to hear back from them.

I really like almaris reply. This is UNBELIEVABLE! She is correct that writing a letter may get you some attention. I have discovered a well written letter (not email) will garner you better results than telephone calls. I do not understand. What is the difference between a MS patient and a MS patient who gets headaches. I get headaches....doesn't everyone? If you have a chronic condition with the headaches, then you should really be the first in line. You may want to try calling a neurologist for an appointment, but do not mention the headaches until you are at the appointment. Perhaps they are getting the wrong idea. As far as a referral is concerned, usually these do not mention other ailments unless they are connected to why you are seeing a particular specialist. Ask your primary care doctor if this is what her office is doing. Besides, don't you usually take the referral into the doctor's office on the day of the appointment? This is why I recommend not mentioning this until you get to see the doctor. You need to get the MS addressed. If headaches are part of this, that should be addressed as well....but wait until you get in. You state the pain is irrelevant? Is the doctor telling you this????? WTF? Pain is not irrelevant and is certainly a part of many MS patient's symptoms. You may want to find a neurologist that is a pain specialist. My old neuro expertise was in pain management. My best to you. Sounds like you are having a bad time of it. If you can, get a friend over when you make the calls. Perhaps having two sets of ears can help. Oh, a few more recommendations. Many websites offer "Find a Doctor" in your area service. You can also contact the AMA, or find an ombudsman at your local or state government level to help you find a doctor.

But, Dr John said the is accepting new MS patients and his PA also worked for my old neuro so I am already acquainted with him. Hopefully you will take me on.

I used to do community theatre, and trying to get a doctor is harder than auditions. :P
